Like the millions he was turning down to stay in Buffalo? - Iggysbff
I guess there's no possible scenario or things Oilers management could have done differently over the past 5 years to turn this into a good team, so why does everybody waste so much time and energy criticising them for their ineptitude, right? |

The Oilers are horrible and open to criticism, it's best not to take that personally.
If they overpaid Miller he would have gone there.... no athlete will turn down millions of dollars. - Mr_Smokey

Kinda sorta not the same thing at all.....
There are facts and there is conjecture.... Miller and Hiller were UFA's and Edmonton decided to make trades for 2 backups during the season instead of wait for free agency and act like a real player............... now they're in last place, again..... |

This is so out of character. |

Yashin was a good pick. - Atomic Wedgie
so was Berard who was sent to the Islander for Phillips I think. |

No but that's why you overpay....

I'm talking about their high end draft choices:
1992
2nd overall - Yashin
1993
1st overall - Daigle
1994
3rd overall - Bonk
1995
1st overall - Berard
1996
1st overall - Phillips
Notice any similiarities? - 1979AD
I've actually been doing a little digging, and this isn't as bad as it looks.
'92 - Yashin - good pick.
'93 - Daigle. every team would have taken him 1st overall.
'94 - Bonk - not a bad pick.
'95 - Berard - not the best pick, but not horrible. It was a bad draft, and I think the injury puts an asterisk on this one, although people seem to forget that Berard was "a work in progress" when the injury occured. Berard was #1, Redden #2, 3rd pick was Aki Berg, 4th pick was Chad Kilger.
'96 - Phillips - perfect pick for that year (shoulda picked up Chara with a later pick...)
It's more a matter of those drafts being weak than the Sens' being poor at drafting.

It can be a mix of ineptitude/bad draft classes, but the fact is they had 5 straight top 3 draft picks and came away with one all star player. Seems similar to the Oilers and their last 5 1st rounds.
And yeah - wow, that Berard draft was horrible! The top 5 also included AKI BERG, CHAD KILGER, Langkow and Redden. |

Actually the isles and panthers have come close - Fakepartofme
they've both made the playoffs recently. Isles picked Johnny T at #1 but what other top 3 picks have they had? Florida comes a bit closer but even still... |

Style of NHL play changed. You'll notice whenever that happens the drafts leading up to it tend to hit new lows. |

Better deals walking in I assume.
Plus, there's a Walmart or Target in every community or suburb in N. America.
How do people not see how this system works?
This addiction to purchasing things completely outweighs any human compassion or wrongdoing.

Xmas.
People identify with the Christian faith. They say they are representing Jesus's values. They celebrate a tradition started the day Jesus was born which is exchanging gifts.
So ya. |

I don't think Black Friday is tied to Christmas, though.
This is a day to celebrate consumption.
Christmas shopping will come later. |
