“The pieces that are in place with this team definitely excite me. It’s obviously a team that has some potential to do some special things. The comfort level with the people, my heart, my gut and my family told me this was the right spot.
“It’s a proud day. I’ve worked hard at this trade. I think it’s something that’s come naturally.… I knew coaching was in my blood and maybe I should have started it much earlier.
“Go look where I played. I played in about 800 different cities. And a lot of times I was a healthy scratch, especially at the NHL level. I wasn’t just sitting upstairs eating popcorn. I was taking notes.”
MacTavish said coaching the Chicago Wolves against Eakins’s Toronto Marlies played a part in it.
“I was impressed by his team and how his team competed. That commitment level from his team was very unusual. He was getting players to do things that, as a coach, that I knew were very difficult to get players to do.
“Dallas also has great interpersonal skills and relates very well to young players. He rightfully has received a lot of credit from players going through the Toronto Marlies team and then filling greater roles with the Toronto Maple Leafs. That was important to us for obvious reasons. He could identify very well with young players.
“During this process I’ve been amazed at how unflappable he’s been. It’s been a highly stressful time for him and his family and it’s been incredible how he’s handled this situation. He’s both unflappable and he’s shown incredible perspective. Those are all great qualities for a coach. Great perspective. And unflappable under pressure.
“I’m very confident in this man’s ability to lead our hockey team. I’m extremely confident in this man’s ability.”
“What we’re going to do with this team is be committed to character. We are going to be committed to a high fitness level. We’re going to be committed to the details of tactical hockey. But the No. 1 thing we’re going to be committed to is going to be competition.
“This team is going to compete!
“If you are going to play for the Edmonton Oilers, you are going to compete. No matter if you are a first line guy. The sixth defenceman. The 23rd man on the roster. A player playing in the minors. You are going to compete to play on this hockey team.
“That’s how you win hockey games in the NHL right now. And that is my commitment to this organization that is going to happen.”
“When we have the puck we are going to challenge the other team with that kind of game. But as soon as we lose the puck, we’re going to push the pace to get it back however we deem possible. As quick as we can. And that will be a commitment to every player.
“Playing defence is a commitment. That’s all it is. Anyone can do it. But going to a guy and saying ‘You’re going to score 30 goals this year ....’ that’s hard to do.
“We’re going to push the pace with our speed, our skill level, our fitness and our physicality.” |

The problems as, as the Oilers embarked on their crusade to acquire as many top quality commodities , they fell in love with them. |

How can you not hate oilers? Unless you are a oilers fan? Come on you are a disgrace and embarrassment to hockey. I bet you guys were the ones laughing at Pittsburgh and Chicago and calling them tankers to win a cup.. Then it's you pathetic chump of an organization with 3 straight first rounders 4 lottery picks 5
Top 10s in 5 years and you still pathetic losers last place and crying for mcdavid. You'll get mcdavid and guess what? You'll still suck ass - QuickSCF

What scout ever said that about Ekblad? None. Just media, bloggers and idiotic posters.
Best D prospects since Pronger?
How about Doughty? Seth Jones? - Jeropotato
Sorry I think he may be right. I've seen this kid play 30/40 times live.....and he's the real deal. I mean....he dominated kids his own age, and now playing big minutes against men at the age of 18.
He will be a Norris winner and multiple all star just like pronger.

Are you a pro scout? The pro scouts I heard speak of him said he was very much like Chris Phillips with a better point shot. Nothing wrong with that, he's gonna be a very good player. One of them also said he's best defensemen in a weak draft for Defensemen, in a league starved for D , so his draft pedigree is a bit over stated. Hey, if he actually wins a Norris I will admit I was wrong to doubt him. |

He's the dude that called the Winnik signing a few days before it was announced. The last few he spouted off never happened. Leafs fans think he's some kind of insider. |
