True, but it's not as bad as people think:
On average, number of wet days:
Edmonton 125
Calgary 114
Vancouver 166
And if you want to talk snowfall:
Edmonton 121.4 cm
Calgary 126.7 cm
Vancouver 48.2 cm

Different strokes for different folks. I like Vancouver, great place, but I couldn't handle the winters. I get that not everyone can handle an Alberta deep freeze but the sunshine to me is great, even if it is -30.
The Vancouver wet cold is awful and it is so grey.just not for me.
The Culture in Edmonton is what I miss. So many creative people there , great music and art scene, but gritty, not pretentious or high brow like It feels in Calgary or Van. I miss living there quite a bit , TBH.

That is definitely a problem in Vancouver. |

??? I find them overly friendly, docile even. Ottawa could very well be the most boring city I've ever spent time in. lol It looks great in the fall however (worth a trip to the Gatineau casino anyway!) - JLO961

Did you ever live in East Van? Seems like you would have liked it. I lived there for a couple years in an old house just off Renfrew and it was terrific. Definitely gritty, but lots of porch concerts and small art shows in people's homes. The pretentious people mainly stick to downtown I find. |

I guess you have to get used to it? I couldn't stand all the snow and cold when I lived there. Everything was either white when it snowed or brown whenever the snow would temporarily not be there. The grass was only green for roughly 3 or 4 weeks of the year. Vancouver is a rainforest. Nice and lush. I did like all the backyard rinks in Calgary though. We're lucky if we can skate outside for a day or two of the year. |

Yeah I love that poop. Here in Calgary I find people a bit too full of poop. Everyone thinks their in Beverly Hills with the one of the worst debt ratios in Canada. |

I am from Winnipeg originally, so Winters in Calgary are so much more timid comparably. A little bit of snow and cold and you get some of the sunniest nicest summers in Canada. Its not that harsh of living in the winter here |

Ha, goes to show where we're each from. I'm from Vancouver and felt like all it did was snow. I hated not being able to go outside unless you were wearing 17 layers of thermal clothing. I'll be sure I never live in Winnipeg if Calgary is mild comparably speaking! |

I feel the same way; Edmonton has some awesome people for sure.
Some of the folks in Vancouver are just horrific for being pretentious. I remember some girl saying to my wife "well, I'm glad that I don't have to live in Edomnton, as Edmonton obviously sucks". My wife raised an eyebrow, and replied "Yeah, being paid six figures and paying less for a mortgage than you pay to rent a studio is just (frank)ing awful..." |

Winnipeg you just don't go outside during the middle of winter. You drive to the pub to drink and watch hockey. Nothing else to do during some of those months but do that. |

That's why so many garage bands come out of Winnipeg. Lots and lots of time to practice. |

Calgary is bad for people trying to keep up with the Joneses. But it has a much better climate than outsiders think. I hate the slush though. Sun is great even if its cool.
BC has a lot of great places. But a lot of people full of poop as well.
Edmonton more down to earth. But a lot of dumbasses with zero education making tons of oil money create problems too.
No where is perfect. Just got to find what suits you best and enjoy. |
