RoR would be perfect for the Oilers.
last season, as a Leafs fan I would have given up Kadri and Gardiner for him. (This year, that becomes a no-brainer since Kadri and Gardiner suck).
The question is what would Edmonton have to give up. There would have to be some young pieces because Colorado's motivation would be cap related.
IF Edmonton could get RoR and knew they could sign him... would you guys give up Yak + Klefblom(sp?). what if it was Yak + Nurse, or Klefblom + Draisatl?

Chicago I'll give you, although they had/have the second best center in the world in Toews. As far as Anaheim, you're seriously underestimating how good Andy McDonald, Ryan Getzlaf & Rob Niedermayer were during that 2007 Cup!! Of course, having Pronger and Scott Niedermayer surely helps. - LeftCoaster
Don't forget about Sammy Pahlsson either! |

***Disclaimer: I will be talking about a trade involving Ryan O'Reilly (ROR) so i apologize in advance for attracting the Avalanche trolls (except you Coga, i heart you)***
The Avalanche are currently close to the cap (~$890K under) according to cap geek, and the only reason they are under is due to someone being on LTIR. I know that O'Reilly is extremely valuable but he will be a UFA at the same time Mackinnon will be looking for his big contract, which will make resigning ROR even more difficult.
In addition, the Avalanche wing depth chart could use an upgrade in my opinion on the 2/3rd lines (Tanguay, Talbot, Cliche, McGinn), an area where Edmonton has strong pieces. With MacKinnon being the future, and duchence still a stud, ROR is a luxury the Avs would likely be open to trading for the right price.
Is there a trade here with the Oilers?
I thought about Eberle for ROR straight up. It is equal on cap, probably pretty close on value depending on who you ask (Eberle has more skill, ROR is a center). The downside i see from Edmonton's end is that Eberle is signed until 2019, and ROR is a UFA in 2016. Those extra 3 years at a fairly decent cap hit for a 1RW is worth a lot in my opinion. Iqqy isn't a 1RW anymore, and certainly isn't the future. So if it were for Eberle i think there would have to be an extension with ROR negotiated beforehand, or some sort of sweetener.
But what about Perron+? Perron's cap hit would save the Avs ~$2.25M or more this year and next, and he's still an upgrade over their current 2/3 line wingers. Obviously the Oilers would need to add something of significance, say Marincin/Klefbom/couple 2nds. Does that get you close to a deal????
Edit: For the Oilers, if we don't resign ROR long term then he can be traded in 2016 before going UFA for some D help and Drai should be much closer to ready to be 2C at that point - massa_3
I have had this conversation with some of other Avs fans, and we know we wont get true value in a trade for ROR, so getting better pieces on the Wing and on D is a move in the right direction, instead of risking him walk for nothing.
Moves that were mentioned were Perron and Petry(maybe) for ROR and a Elliott or even to a lesser extent Kadri and Gardiner.
Its like you guys and trading Ebs, you know you might to do it, but its going to suck when you get the return since it probably wont match up to what the Ebs/ROR actual is worth to the team to what the bring individually |

In other words, another goalie malfunction cost the Oilers the game.
Oilers outshot Dallas, they outplayed Dallas, but Dallas cashed on every single opportunity they had whiel the Oilers jsut couldn't finish of their plays or some unlucky bounce happened. - EdmHockeyMan
Bad change caused the second goal... you give the leagues top scorer a break away against a middling goalie and he's gonna bury it |

I don't think the Avalanche do Eberle for RoR ... and what is the point, they would still have almost the same cap issue no?
I would guess that if the Avs trade RoR it will be for young, inexpensive D that can grow with the team. - Aetherial
we don't really have cap issues, we have 29 players counting against the Cap right now. with 9...potentially 10 injuries to regular roster plaeyrs. They are putting guys on IR to call them up but that doesn't give them cap relief by simply putting them on the IR |

Is he any better than PA Parenteau? If not, he's just an ok top 6 forward. |

to me, and probably the majority of you, know that this an issue that needs fixing starting with the removal of much of the upper level management...Loew, McTavish, Eakins. - ...sbs138...
This has been clear as day for quite some time... the question is who will actually pull the plug on these guys, given the perpetual attachment disorder to the team's glory days?

I just watched the highlights and I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet. Good on Nuge for being the only guy to stand up for Hall after the Garbutt knee play. He's really beefed up the confidence and strength this year. I feel like Nuge and Perron are the ones really showing how to lead the team right now. |

That is interesting also ...
I just couldn't bring myself to give up the first, even for RoR. How the F do you feel if RoR doesn't help this year, and the goaltending continues to suck and you finish last? I couldn't take that risk. Leafs fans know all about how that works |

I noticed that too last night. Was expecting Ferrence to man up and hit someone back, but no he was too busy counting his calories on the bench, |

Perron + 2nd and only a second = O'Reilly
The reason why only a second is because we don't even know if O'Reilly is going to be a permament player for the Oilers.
Even all, I still think that this trade is quite risky for the Oilers. - EdmHockeyMan
We don't know that Perron is either, actually seems pretty obvious that he isn't. Oiler management doesn't value him as much as Oiler fans it seems.

RNH is right up there with RoR for guys I would love to have on the Leafs. Different players of course but both could be huge difference makers.

Yeah, it's a tough one. Let's make it a conditional 2015 1st. if he doesn't sign, they owe us two 1st rounders |
