I sincerely hope Gudas hip-checks MSL into retirement.
I am not taking away from MSL accomplishments as a player. His resume is truly impressive and he is future HOF material. No arguing any of that.
As a Lightning fan since day one, I through MSL was great when he played for us.
My problem (and likely others) is how and when he left the team. Playing for a sports team is playing for a corporation. Amongst other things, it's work and it's a business. We have all worked for arseholes and tools we disliked or possibly hated. We kept going at the job because it gave us a paycheck and we liked our coworkers. Under fire, we formed friendships and bonds with our coworkers. The arse manager would eventually go and get promoted or transferred. You ride out the wave and keep going. This is true for $15 an hour. It should certainly be true if you are getting paid millions of dollars per year.
I've worked for bigger tools than Steve Yzerman and got paid a lot less to do it. The fact the Stevie Y. snubbed Marty on the Olympic rosters is moot. Steve put together the best roster to give Canada the best chance to win - there is no favoritism or grudges there. Marty is a great player, but he didn't make the cut on a roster that was heavy with firepower.
What I do understand is Marty's desire to be closer to home and his family. If that had been the reason, then I would be fine with that. But, the timing was also a D**K MOVE. Right during the run-up to the playoffs when your top gun is injured? During the playoff chase, you decide to pack up and leave. Jump on the next flight out of town and screw the guys you have been working with for over a decade. That is what I have a problem with. That is not being a professional, that is being selfish.
MSL - great player, dangerous with the puck, never takes a night off, leaves it all out there on the ice, great veteran presence. Tool. Midget Selfish Tool. Deep down inside, there is a little bit of Sean Avery in MSL and that is what disappoints me. - GalacticStone
I see you have chosen to take the classy route

no you !!!!!!!!
my take is that marty deserves to be told by the fans how they feel tonight, and after tonight, everything he did, will be remembered, and i said in a previous post, i believe he will be cheered for the rest of his returns after tonight
it is rightfully so that he gets to hear how the fans feel tonight, just like we heard some boo's for callahan as well |

Many of us - in fact most I know - disagreed with booing Callahan. Hopefully it's a good game. You know where my allegiances are but respect what Tampa has built there, plus Cally, Boyle and Stralman are now members of the team and still have a soft spot for a lot of them. I never ever root for a player to be hurt regardless of who they are or who they play for and will try and make sure those from my blow keep it above board tonight. Good luck. |

i dont want him to get hurt either, but i wont be cheering for him tonight, i think its fair to say the fans deserve the voice themselves to him. after tonight, i will cheer for him again. callahan left on a better note than st louis did
that said, i wouldnt be surprised to hear cheers for him either . some people feel the same way you do, and ill be one of those people after tonight |

Marty St. Louis spoke with Rick Peckham of the NHL Network on Tuesday and spoke about the timing and reasons for his decision to come to the Rangers last year.
St. Louis said, “I always felt that I would maybe try to finish my career in New York. I didn’t think I would still be playing as late in my 30s and a successful player. It almost….my kids were getting older, their hockey they were traveling so much out of state, especially my older one. It was just…now it was….my second child is now getting older and be traveling to and it’s just impossible to manage all of that. I just felt that it was the right time. This is the time, if we don’t do it now, who knows if we will do it. Looking back, it was a big part of the reason, getting the kids somewhere we could manage their activities a lot better.” (NHL.com)
Obviously doesn't patch over tough feelings but there's his reason I guess. |

I've said before that I don't think the Rangers trade for him in the summer. |

Sather and Cally actually agreed to a deal verbally 30 minutes before the trade. After they agreed, Yzerman dropped his demand for a 2nd roster player and Sather made the move. So yes, Cally would've (and unofficially was) signed if MSL didn't happen. And if he was re-signed, they don't move him in the offseason. |

I guess he tried to be professional and just keep the business aspect private and focus on the on-ice product with the media. Obviously some people saw that as unprofessional and annoying.
I get it though...if MSL stayed, Bishop remained healthy, and Hedman playing like he was, sky could've been the limit for you guys in the Playoffs last year and MSL killed all that. His trade was a 1 step back 2 steps forward kind of move for you. |

Damage control a little late don't you think. The fact that youth hockey was done for the year and then he took the kids out of school two months early and that it could all been managed over the summer easier has nothing to do with it

It's true what you say about 1 step back 2 steps forward . I don't care about the on ice results that's not why I'm unhappy . I'm unhappy because he handled himself the complete opposite of how we all thought Marty really was , that's what eats at me |

I like MSL. Close to a ppg player still and plans on playing for longer. Cally would never top 60 points in NY unless he had a center as talented as Stamkos. |

If it's any indication as to how the crowd will react tonight , there's a couple " thank you for the memories Marty " signs in the crowd during warm ups , one on the glass in new yorks end
And one a few rows up that days traitor haha |

Nice cheap-shot by that POS Nash. Milan Lucic would have been proud of that one. Open season on Nash - I hope Gudas or Paquette sends that punk through the boards and into row 5.
Should have been 5-min major and a game misconduct.
Nash = Punk. |

Boos when he touches the puck prior to tribute. Boos turned to cheers when they did the tribute. Boos when he touches the puck after the tribute. Just like it should be, fans handled it well. |

Nash isn't usually like that, stupid move, but not the norm for him. |
