this trade is one of those trades that's proving to be great for both teams.

After Lundqvist, MSL was probably the 2nd biggest reason the Rangers made it to the Stanley Cup finals and he is becoming a beloved player who will probably keep signing one year deals with the team until he retires, which may not be for quite awhile.

Tampa got a great player in Callahan who wanted to stay and two first round picks, Marty requesting a trade to the Rangers may ultimately be one of the best things that have happened to that organization.

There's just no need to be negative about it, it's much better than Marty retiring and you guys getting nothing

That's pathetic, really pathetic, anyone who can't get past the trade and who erased 14 years of 100% effort are just bandwagon fans

Why not we have our opinions, after tonight I dont care what he does or where he goes but we get to tell him how we feel about his waaaa waaaa you didn't pick me for the Olympics. Which had nothing to do with the Bolts. It had nothing to do with the owner, team city or fans only that his feelings were hurt.

you guys have the 2nd best record in the NHL, as good a chance to win the Cup as any team in the league, probably the best player in the league in Stamkos, two first round picks in June, yet you guys do not stop waaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaing

it's amazing.

Probably shouldn't have signed that extension in 2011 then.

He's a Ranger now end of story, hope you guys get a couple more years out of him and the way he's going that's not unthinkable. So we'll agree to disagree on what people think or feel. They'll give him a nice video clip ,thank him and probably give him an ovation then he's the enemy on the ice. By the way Vinny was the face of the franchise all those years and yes he was a big part of the team but so were Vinny, Khabby, Brad, Dan Boyle, Modin and Andy. No doubt he was the heart and soul and energy every shift but Tampa also gave him a chance from a struggling 4th liner in Calgary looking to be shipped back to the minors, so it goes both ways.

That's the puzzling one, I wonder if anyone ever asked him or whether he'll shed any light on that, they should be happy he stayed and got something for him

He signed it when Vinik and Stevie came in and liked the five year plan and where they planned to take the team. And they kept their word

Yes he has it was the new owner and GM's plan for the team that had him decide to resign.

Personally, I was livid at the fact that he wanted out and would only go to the NYR's. He was our heart and soul, our hero and feel good story, so when he demanded out of Tampa Bay it hurt.... A lot!

However, we as a fan base need to move on and focus and a great future that this team has. In that deal, we got Ryan Callahan, who may not have the Talent that Marty did, he certainly has the heart and passion. We also ended up with TWO first round picks (2014 and 2015) which we turned one (2014) into two second round guys, Dominik Masin and Jonathan Macleod. We still have our second first round pick coming up and a younger RW in Cally.

To Bolts fans I say cheer him before the game, but after the game has started he is an opponent and you should boo him back to the Stone Age.

I think you're the winner of the trade when it's all said and done.

Also, here's to hoping that Ho Sang turns out to be a stud since we drafted him with the Rangers pick

Yes I know. It happened with Rick Nash. Same thing happened with him. Franchise made a promise it couldn't keep. Same thing Yzerman and MSL. Get over it.

Yeah and what "promise" did the Lightning make they couldn't keep? Please enlighten us

Here's a question. Marty gets two points for 1000 in his career... Does he get an ovation?
- Shaundre93

If this happens yes he will get an ovation IMO. I know I would

The 2 defensemen they drafted with the picks they got from you for our 1st rounder don't seem likethey'll be anything special let alone make the NHL ever. So essentially right now it was cally and our 2015 1st for MSL and a 2nd and they can still fck up that pick like they did our other one.

I can't speak for anyone else , but Marty quit on a team who had an average age of 12 in the middle of a playoff push , he was a captain on an extremely young team and quit on them .

You can't wait until the end of the year , Marty ?

And then the whole episode of no answer why he did it . And then getting to New York and talking about cups and winning and big hockey markets !!

He got to New York and completely dissed Tampa fans . Now don't telle " what is he suppose to say I still love the lightning?" No , but you can move on to a new franchise without disrespecting your old one

Whatever his reasons are , I don't care .. When you just up and quit on a team who is relying on you because you might be a little hurt from te canada or u want to move ur family to New York I don't care what it is , you're a baby

Wait until the season is over, and at least give an explanation . You want Tampa fans to respect you ? For quitting a team when it needed you the most and for giving you the chance you needed to make a name for yourself in the NHL? Then leave with a little more respect and explanation than that .

- RileyB77

You can't say he quit on the team. He played hard every night despite the leaked rumors and would've continued to play hard every night had there been no deal.
