Just because they were stupid in getting rid of Renney, and then again in Kruger, doesn't make Eakins right.

We were progressing on all levels with a younger smaller core, worse D and a worse bottom 6. We had one of the best special teams in the League to one of the worst. but yea, you're right

- SpoiledByOil

Having a new coach every year with a younger, smaller core is a HUGE problem for the Oilers. It's hard enough to be a consistent player in the NHL at a young age, now you have to learn a new system every year. Compound that with a lack of depth and inconsistent goal tending and this is what you are left with. A group a very talented players that don't know how to win at this level.

The defense hasn't been deployed correctly. Fayne, Marincin and Petry (and to an extent Ference) haven't been receiving the amount of ice time that the likes of Nikitin and Jultz (our two worst dmen) are receiving. Fayne was brought in for possession abilities and yet we send two guys out there that like to give the puck away.

It's going to be a sad day this year when Petry leaves the Oilers and we give Jultz 5mil +

- ChetManly

That sucks. I suppose it’s like how Capuano played Andrew macdonald 25 minutes a night last year while all Islanders fans raged. Poor flyers fans.

I liked the fayne signing and pre-boychuk and leddy, he was a guy I was interested in seeing the Isles go after. I really thought he’d be a stabilizing force for you guys. Petry is a solid defenseman as well. I’ve watched a few games or parts of them here and there with center ice, no idea why Schultz is given the ice time he is. He looks like he can’t be bothered to play defense and takes risks with the puck every time he’s on the ice. It looks like he’s playing for his own points rather than to win games.

So they were doing better under a coach who has spent considerable amounts of time implementing his system, but you want to fire the new guy? The Oilers suck because they built a crappy team, Eakins had nothing to do with that.

You realize that all the other 29 teams are progressing too right? Progress is slow, but slow will seem really slow if you are used to the speed of daily alberta life.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Considerable time? He was coach for one year, the shortened year. Where we played 100% of our games against the western conference, and at one point, actually fighting for a playoff spot.

Since day 1 I've been saying Eakins is garbage, his "system" his deployment, his devlopment, his special teams, his complete lack of emotion, complete (frank)ing garbage.

and if I didn't already hate him enough, his comments about not having a problem with no one stepping up for Draisatl last game after he was ran from behind, and saying that he needs to look out for himself, make me (frank)ing hate that piece of poop even more.

That's been a major item. I believe this is why MacT is committed to keeping Eakins for at least the rest of this season, if not the whole contract. Hall and a few other players have had good solid things to say about Eakins.

The problem comes down to the quality of the players and their inability to perform at the required level to fully compete.

But, if the goalies can't stop the puck, that eventually weighs on ALL of the players. The defense corps, when incorrectly deployed can really become a huge problem, as witnessed by the use of Nikitin and Jultz.

You're right, there was no need to fire Renney or Kruger. But just because they (frank)ed up there doesn't mean we should stay with this massive (frank) up. He's literraly ruining this team, and our young players.

I think he panics when he has the puck and it's frustrating. I bet Jultz would be a decent 2/3W

I was shocked to see that on the ice, the lack of reaction from the team, and then the response from Eakins. That told me there was not a tight locker room on that team, and that it was likely going to blow up. Perron was the first voice, I think there's going to be more. They have to sort this out and remove the problems. It may take a management change before it happens though.

this is true. The Isles lost 12 games last year with a third period lead and almost every single one was because of soft goals. Our goaltending was a nightmare.

That crap has been bugging me for a while. Sure, no need to be constantly fighting, but a team should be sticking up for each other no matter what. They are called scuffles and happen all the time by all the other clubs.

Maybe Eakins has some golden rule about no scuffles?

Well the way I see it we are out of the running for playoffs anyway- (frank) it may as well roll the dice on Mcdavid odds- trim the fat where necessary- ESP if Eakins lasts the next 5 games after losses... We are not in a position of power- but then again we are not in a position of weakness either as we dont have to do a damn thing...

How dare you enter the McD fray!

Though I guess Eichel is a pretty sweet #2.

Yeah, that poop can really bring a team down. And it becomes obvious. Last year, once Scrivens came in, the team was playing with new life because he was playing great and it pumped the rest of the team up.

anyone of McDavid/Eichel/Hanafin will be great for the Oilers. Buffalo defintely needs one of McEichel. You guys are already so rich with promising, gigantic dmen!

My thoughts exactly... 2 years coaching and its been a (frank)ing gong show- Eakins has had the best roster any of his predecessors have had and gotten the same or worse results.... Seriously the man cant win a (frank)ing game in the western conference!!!!!!!!! And we have eastern fan bases praising Eakins... holy (frank)n guacamole!!!!!

Edmonton will be better after the impending trades.

There should be 3 things they focus on this season.

1. Get a real #1 goalie
2. Trade whoever to get a solid #1 stay at home defenseman.
3. Finish last and get McDavid

and right after he was the first voice, he was put on the trading block. Everyone knows the last thing this team needs is a gritty forward looking for acountability on his team

The Oilers needs someone with balls to blow up this rebuild. Its obvious the current assets isn't working. So take the 1st rounder and a young gun and make a splash. The return could be huge. Remember what Quebec/Colorado did with Lindros?? Without that trade they don't win the cup. IMO
