Yeh I said it yesterday after reading the Garrioch quote that both VLC and Umby would be playing on other teams before the end of the season.

GM of the year if he pulls that off.

GM of the decade if that is pulled off. Better chance of Sixers winning NBA title

Sounds like the name of a French metal band.

I mean, Danny B isn't exactly some fountain of youth now either, but he was so exciting to watch, and an excellent personality. Would've much preferred to soldier through his twilight years than Vinny's.

I do hope he comes back to the organization in some capacity when he's done playing

Briere had a 6 million dollar cap hit. The Flyers did the right thing.
- SuperSchennBros

The point is that they got rid of that 6 million dollar cap, and replaced it with 9 million in two players who fit the same mold (older, not so good, declining, recently divorced)

He also only had this year and next remaining, as opposed to this year and 3 more.

I am not saying gut the team to get Kane. More of an example of a player I would want. i love simmonds heart too but that can only do so much. That is why I think moving Coburn makes sense. I think to the right team he could get you a wing and 1st rounder.

Vancouver lost Hamhuis. Could Coburn get you a !st and Virtanen? Not sure. Myabe a 1st and Shinkaruk? I think this is the year where they can move some peices and be players at the deadline because of being patient with the prospects they already have.

- J35Bacher

If the Flyers could get a first plus a top prospect like the two guys you listed for Coburn then I'd do it.

But I don't think Coburn gets you a 1st and a Shinkaruk.

Speaking of those Sixers. It appears Hinkie's plan is coming together perfectly. They added Noel to last year's abortion, and they are worse. Amazing. The fact other NBA players were talking about a college team beating them is unfathomable.

By the way: Steve Mason, after last night's amazing performance, is now eighth amongst starting goaltenders in SVPCT. He has now either played well in or absolutely been on fire for nine straight starts

It's gonna be tragic if they waste this kind of goaltending and Giroux's/Voracek's seasons, and I'm gonna be hard-pressed to understand how nothing could be done to improve this roster when I can think of three ways to do it just sitting in my office

Hartnell Fartsmell..

Umberger is a MUCH better skater and two way player. He also has been a proven PP performer and 20+ goal scorer. He just needs to want to score moar goalz

- jak521

Yes, I think Umberger has decided not to score this year.

Any deal that gives the Flyers more financial flexibility and rids themselves of these guys would be a good starting point. Of course they won't be able to get anything of value back in return. Every time they are on the ice, I change the channel for 30-45 seconds.
- PLindbergh31

The only other way I can see one moving is if they were to trade a valuable asset (Coburn, Brayden Schenn) and tacked on Lecavalier or Umberger, accepting less, but losing the contract.

In other words, instead of trading Coburn for David Perron and a 2nd, maybe deal Coburn & Vinny for Perron alone...not ideal, but they lose a bad contract.

Moving Umberger for whoever makes it look like Hexy doesn't know what he is doing to his superiors. When the trade with Harts for Umb was proposed, Hex didn't just pull the trigger, he went to Homer, Clarke, etc and probably had to justify why it was a good deal. So why would he go back to those guys, and try to justify moving him when we aren't even at the half way point of his first season? It makes him look bad.
- CACannon18

I am pretty sure he went to them and told them what he was planning but he didn't have to justify it. He probably has a 3-5 year plan and part of that was moving some long bad deals like Hartnell's to free up space to sign guys who will need new deals i.e. Couturier and Schenn and Voracek. it was no secret what he wanted to do. Hell it was pretty public knowledge Berube and Hextall want to move Vinny. I don't think he will need to go to them to justify that one either.

How about one of Cassels/McCann, J. Eriksson, and a 1st for Coburn and a 3rd?

So all we have to do is get through the rest of this season, and then two more?

- PLindbergh31

problem is Hextall has inherited a bit of a mess with little means to rid himself of the problems......granted Umberger is his doing. of course that said I still do get wanting to get out of Hartnell's deal. in the past you could bury guys in the A but that doesn't even work anymore. the salary cap is definitely not our friend

IMO Hartnell is a better player than Umberger. He also worked well with G and Jake. Umberger is cooked and he has looked very slow and lazy

I have no doubt that Hextall is working the phones. If a deal can be made, he will find it.

We really like Umberger. He brings a lot to this team. He is a very good skater, a solid two way player, very versatile, has a nose for the net...and dont get us started on his prowess on the PP. We just need him to want it a bit more. He needs to skate harder, and yell a lot. Maybe throw 3-5 hits a night, and fight occasionally. If he skates harder and wants it more, he is easily a 25-25-50 guy.

Yep. I think I would be willing to do it. I can't watch these guys play 14-15 minutes per game anymore.

It really is pathetic...outside of G, Voracek, Mason, and DelZotto, there isn't much to be happy about in Flyerland

According to this, they do:

I would submit that Couturier Hell is a better name than all of those listed.

/waits for IT to ask why I googled "French Metal Bands"

The Flyers are a top 10 offensive team in the League.
- MJL

And the majority of that offense comes from the top line and Simmonds on the PP.

Sure. However Umberger was just brought in exchange for Hartnell for the purpose of saving money and right now Umberger is a negative daily topic. Briere would be no different.

Why couldn't we just buyout Briere risk free and not sign Vinny? This mindset after the fact makes more sense to me. If kept Briere, we keep a 6 million dollar player who can't play anymore.

Speaking specifically of last night, we did shutout a team that just beat Pittsburgh in back-to-backs with their starter in.

Just looking for some positives.

Cap issues always work themselves out. It's just part of it. Hextall has also inhereted Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Couturer, Raffl, Laughton, Simmonds, Read. Top defense prospects. So it isn't all bad. There is still a strong core to work with.
