Looks to be the days when was working with Stephen Fry. That might explain it.

that series was so rough. if you had halak then, you would have taken it. that team reminded me a lot of the pens when they were younger and actually hungry.

guys like czesikas (guarantee i butchered that) were absolutely flying.

hamonic is good too. absolutely infuriates me though haha he is one where i will not say he is a dirty player, but he definitely knows how to use the lack of officiating in playoff hockey. his battles with malkin were fun to watch.

we have different views about martin for sure. my opinion of him is that he is really a fringe fourth line guy who realizes he needs to toe the line and provide big hits in order to stay in the game. that type of mentality is definitely going to result in questionable results from time to time.

but having that one guy on the team isnt exactly unique to the islanders. theres a bunch of them out there. hell, guys like downie and cooke are even worse to me. they actually do provide good qualities from time to time, but yet they still feel the need to act like jackasses. actually, neal was the worst offender of that in recent memory.

Martin will lay hits just to do it though theyre rarely of the dirty variety. Hes not the guy thats usually going to lay a knee on knee or elbow on someone. He jad a bad hit on schenn last night but those are rare. He has use when hes playing the way he has been lately. Scored in both of our games against you guys and hes playing a better defensive game. Hes not the guy that intends to injure though I agree anyone who leads the league in hits every year is going to be walking a fine line at times. Nice rivalry. Our teams have grown to seriously hate each other. Love it

they have. i wish the pens would stop making it about mind games and extra curricular stuff and just focus on the task at hand. the islanders are going to be a very real threat, and are only getting better.

i really wanted kulemin.

C'mon, I'm kidding. I like the Isles and Pens beating up on each other.

im sure you do. however, im sure we agree that picking up easy points against a lifeless islanders squad is something that we are going to miss come april.

Don't know a lot about Fry - too much good British comedy - but Hugh Laurie's character(s) in Black Adder is one of my favorites.

That seems to be the pens one weakness. The head games. Flyers exploited it a few yrs ago in the playoffs.

I was pondering whether grabovski would be a good fit or not on our thread and I think a couple days later we got both of those guys. Great defensive fwds the both of them kulemin especially has been huge in that sense. Grabo has been great in the neutral zone which was a weakness of ours. Overpayed but it was well worth it imo big part of the teams good play lately.

I'm torn on that, actually. Obviously if the Isles are winning, others in the east are losing (in general), but I much prefer competitive teams to lethargic pushovers.

And on that note, I can't wait to start hating Buffalo again very soon. They are going to be beasts if they do it right.

oh yeah. they showed how to do a quick rebuild. i understand people may say boo tanking and i do get that.

but moreso trading guys while they still had value. if youre gonna do it. do it. miller. pominville. vanek. all moved before they got too old. the flames killed themselves holding onto guys for too long.

yes they overpaid. but given the context of what theyve done for the team, and given the fact that the isles likely had to overpay. those signings at least are producing big time dividends on the ice. its not often you can purchase 2 thirds of a good two way second line. able to chip in from time to time with offense, but more importantly able to take some of the tougher minutes away from tavares. its hard to argue with the results right now.

I agree they made some good trades with the assets they had but they haven't shown how to do a quick rebuild yet. Everyone loves prospects in today's nhl but they mean squat until theyre developed properly and actually do something in the nhl. I can relate in the opposite way though. We had nothing to trade for picks when we started our rebuild if those kids pan out theirs will go much faster than ours has been. Seven yrs is a long time and im not ready to say we are done yet.

true. prospects are lottery tickets. i understand that.

but, the speed with which they identified players that still had value, and shipped them out (all at very good returns) despite the fact that pretty much everyone knew what they were doing, was very well done in my opinion.

Sadly I don't feel like Red Dwarf holds up when re-watched now. Blackadder is timeless.
