Absurd. Berube has to go. The worse VLC and Umberger play the more ice time they get.
- PLindbergh31

I don't understand his logic...he can't really be that blind and/or stupid can he?

Konecny and Svechnikov are my early obsessions this year.
- Tomahawk

Konecny is solid but more of a pass first player...........wouldn't say no but my goal if possible is adding a goal scorer.

1/4 of the way into the season, the Flyers only have more points than the following teams.

Buffalo
Carolina
Columbus
Edmonton

Absolutely pathetic. With the resources the Flyers have, and the amount of money they spend, to be lumped in with these small market teams is truly remarkable. Hextall has his work cut out for him. Lets hope he is up to the task.

First order of business it to get a legit coach.

- PLindbergh31

But, but...they're a good team. Going to make the playoffs....in 15-16 maybe.

As I said last night, as an ultra-orthodox hockey fan, I refuse to watch shootouts. As far as I'm concerned, the game ended after 5 minutes of scoreless overtime.

Great game by Mason, I wish he'd had better support. He definitely deserved better than a statistical loss in a silly skills competition.

You never know, we could be 8th seeded against the Penguins. We all know how that series could turn out. Mostly with Giroux outplaying Crosby, Cooters outplaying Frankenstein and Fluery falling to pieces.

Even with the Pens, and the way they play them... I'm just not so sure this season. This team has been so up and down, and even when they stay up, they fall short half the time. They just don't have the personnel to pull out wins. If.. IF that would happen, and they by some chance make it past Pitt... I can't see them limping any further. Call me a pessimist, but I(it seems I'm not the only one) just don't think they have the depth to go anywhere.

It's actually sad... past years saw them horrible on D, and losing games by high scores, because they still had offense. This season, the D is doing a decent job, and they're losing low-scoring games because the offense (outside of the first line) isn't effective. It's like they did a complete reversal (they still need upgrades on D though) from what they were in past years...

And to continue from the other blog this is why I make Read, Coburn, L.Schenn, Grossmann and possibly even Simmonds available at the TDL.

The team needs more skill.

- J35Bacher

With the amount of heat VLC and Umberger get, Matt Read shouldn't get a pass. He's been brutal so far. Umberger and Lecavalier are a couple of washed up cadavers, but what is the reason for Read playing so poorly? Basically if the Giroux line has an off night, the Flyers basically have zero chance to win. Absolutely no secondary scoring right now.

You also have to consider if the forwards are comitting more to the defensize zone than in years past, which is probably the case with Berube. I agree though, the mix isn't very good outside of the 1st line. Even the 1st line is missing a true goal scorer, they're just so talented it doesn't matter.

That would be a full rebuild when you include Simmonds, Coburn and Read in the list.

I heard they were close to a deal getting the very first pick last summer and it was turned down because Florida wanted Simmonds included in it.

Wayne is pretty highly regarded in the organization.

Contracts expiring after this season:
Bellemare
White
VandeVelde
Akeson
Timonen
Del Zotto
Schultz
Colaiacovo
Emery

after 2015-16:
Voracek
B. Schenn
Couturier
Raffl
Coburn
L. Schenn
Grossmann

after 2016-17:
Umberger
Laughton
Rinaldo
Streit
Pronger
Mason

I think it'll be the Summer of 2016 that will be when we see what Hextall can do. He'll have to decide who to re-up especially concerning the dmen. I'm sure there will be some other moves before then but not much money comes off the books after this year in terms of UFAs.

Not sure how stupid he is. He's very stubborn. Playing 7 dmen, instead of giving Akeson a chance to play is plain idiotic. I will be the first to admit Akeson hasn't played well. But neither have a ton of other guys. Zero accountability. I'm sure the players have tuned Berube out already.

Now they stay out of the box and it seems like they are just soft. When they played the penguins they might not have been as talented but they could drag them into a street fight and make them play their game.

Win or lose, shootouts are a farcical way to decide hockey games. The stupidity of the skills competition is never more obvious than when both opposing goaltenders get credited for shutouts yet one goaltender gets a loss on his record because of the shootout.

What's the solution or preferable alternative? I, for one, hate games that end in a tie, they feel incomplete.

4 shots in the 3rd for the Flyers? How impressive.

Why wouldn't they tune him out? I mean I guy like Bellemare has to be thinking to himself "I'm playing my ass off and he's giving Umberger more time than me and putting him out on the pp??. WTF??"

Especially when offensive scoring has been the main problem..

(not saying Akeson is the solution either, but they need to get their forwards going offensively)
