Do you think they refuse to sit Umberger because they recently traded for him and don't want to surrender defeat in that trade?

People realize Perron is coming off hip surgery and suddenly isn't scoring, right?

He makes too much money and they want him to play his way out of it.

They don't have a solid player to get him the puck.

I wonder if there is anything in the bylaws that would prevent Snider from having Umberger stay late after home games and have him assist the cleaning crew. He's got to earn his money somehow. I would sleep better at night knowing he was scrubbing the poopters.

Maybe I'm crazy, but if the Islanders are as good as everyone says they are, meaning a real threat in the East, does it make the loss easier to swallow?

By no means am I trying to excuse the Flyers' play last night, but they have been stomped by Chicago. Pretty much got their heads kicked in last night, but came away with a point.

We all know this is far from a cup contender, but if you beat the teams your're supposed to, and find ways to eak out points from the top teams, I'm more than OK with that.

Maybe I'm not ready to admit the sky is falling and that fact that it's late November I'm hanging on the a thread of hope they can get this turned around.

I'd do the same. But that's not the option. Every time a player gets waived, this board gets all excited and wants to grab him. That's not possible/wise. There's usually a reason why a player is exposed to waivers.

I look at it differently, with Umberger -- I don't question his character. But he's dead weight, and while Galiardi has flaws, he can skate and forecheck.

Right now, Umberger is deficient in so many areas, you have to look around

That being said, I was honest: Don't know how many contract slots they have available at the moment

I think they have 3 right now, not counting Hagg. However, if we'd done what this board wanted to do with every single waived player, we'd be at like 53.

And that's my issue. If you claim Galiardi (assuming he makes it to us), that's great. And then, if another player comes along and you think, "Eeeeehhh...sure, why not, he can't hurt," then that's fine too. But if you do that too many times, picking up other teams' trash, there's the possibility of a guy that you REALLY DO WANT comes along, and now you're maxed out and you miss out.

So, instead of claiming every player put on waivers, why not wait until a player comes along that we actually see a use for, and then make a claim if we can. If Galiardi doesn't fill a specific need, then I'd pass on him.
