Question of the day:

If they lose to Detroit in regulation and fail to pick up a point against the Rangers this weekend (all of which, sadly, is very possible) is Berube still the head coach Sunday morning?

- BiggE

What happens then? Lappy or Gord Murphy as interim? As much as I don't care for the doof, might as well just hang on to him until the summer, when proper candidates become available.

Matt Martin is an awesome 4th liner. Would love to have him.
- Just5

Matt Martin's a coward and a goon who should be run out of the league. At least Rosehill is an honest player.

4th rounder for akeson?
- stayinthefnnet

I'd consider it strongly. I have doubts that he'd clear waivers.

Taylor a Hall is the only guy I'd pay the "Oilers price" for. That guy will go through a wall to win, on both sides of the ice.

Guys like Eberle, Yak, RNH, and Schultz? Not so much.

- Tomahawk

I'd be A-OK with Hall here but I seriously doubt they trade him.... But we can dream right?

I'd try to make a player move before firing the coach.
- Jsaquella

This.

It's not "time to fire the coach" yet.

I think some guys need to sit, first.

at the cost that the oilers would want. probably not.

but, a guy like eberle on girouxs wing would allow you to realistically try splitting giroux and voracek up.

could bring another line that could actually control the puck and dictate play. in a way, that could help the defense.

- stayinthefnnet

They could put Simmonds on the top line RW or Read on the top line RW too. Those guys may not be as offensively gifted as Eberle, but it would still make an effective line.

I think he's here through the end of the season no question. I think that if there is to be a coaching change it won't happen in the middle.

Still upset they missed Nestrasil... supposedly 4 teams put in a claim... wonder if the Flyers were one of them.

Yeah, but they won't be dealing Hall. I just don't think the teams are good trading partners. The players they would want like Coburn and Couts would cost a lot more than they want to pay.

true. like i said, ultimately i dont think it works because price wise, it wouldnt behoove the flyers.

but i do think that eberle would help the flyers more than hurt them

Honestly, aside from opportunities to sell off dead weight, I'd prefer if they just sat on their hands and not try to "improve". Draft, develop, patience.

I was getting tired of the flyers giving up position nearly every time they needed a change. Quite a few times we had possession in the neutral zone and had the opportunity to pass back to our d to get a change but we elected to dump and face another onslaught. We just bled that game out last night. They got a point in the end I guess
- Just5

Good point. Flyers need to regroup and retain possession rather then give the puck away. That comes from spending too much time in your own end defending, to where you just need to dump it to get a change.
One of the biggest factors in the game was the neutral zone and back pressure the Islander had. That lead to turnovers in the neutral zone. And when the Flyers rushes were stopped, that led to dump ins from a stopped position, to where you have no speed to get in on the forecheck. Opposition defense has plenty of time to retreive the puck, and easy outs and quick ups. All leading to transition attacks, and more time spent defending in the Flyers end.

WTF happened to Read? Time to split up Read/Couturier I think

Great question. No idea. He's looked terrible all year. I really like Read, I hope he bounces back to form soon.

I'd waive Akeson & Umberger. If the coach isn't going to play him, let him help the Phantoms. Umberger....just keep him away.

Split Coots & Read, expand Bellemare's role, no more 7 D., clone Giroux and Voracek....

- Jsaquella

I have a feeling if Akeson was waived someone would take a chance on him. Certainly not saying it would be Patrick Sharp redux, but it wouldn't surprise me if he became a regular somewhere and contributed. Just a hunch.

I'm honestly more frustrated by Cooters play as of late... I don't know what's up with him, but he looks weak on the puck, isn't skating hard... idk..

Couturier is still a baby. Sure he's got a lot of NHL experience, but the room for improvement is there. He's already very solid defensively, I don't think he'll ever become a 30 goal scorer, but given solid linemates, I think he could push 20 goals and 50+ points in the future. Coupled with his defensive prowess that's a hell of a player.

Oh, without a doubt. I'm not giving up on him (ie JvR), it just seems like something is up with him... either he's not 100% healthy, or something else is throwing him off. Offensive production aside - He just doesn't look like he's "driven" recently like we've seen from him before.
