And you are right.. However, I dont pin that solely on the Defense (even though they were horrid). The forwards have also made a complete mess out of passing and receiving.

I know some are not fans of advanced stats, but look at the top 10 teams in CF% this season...

Chi, Nash, Minn, NYI, Bos, TB, Det, Stl, SJ, Pit... is that surprising?

It's true. You get outliers, like Montreal thus far, and Anaheim & Colorado last year, but, when you have the puck a lot, it's hard to get beat.

I agree the forwards are to blame as well. It does no good to support the puck if all that happens when it arrives is to bang off your stick and go to the opposing winger

I loved Clutterbuck on the Wild, but after seeing some of his antics last night, I view him much differently. I knew he was aggressive and a big hitter, but didn't realized he was an actress.

I would have loved it if Eric Goddard smashed his stick into Matt Martin's face after that Bertuzzi-esque sucker punch attempt. That whole game was a disgrace, and the reason I hate the Islanders. I know the Flyers have a checkered past, but the total lack of honor (cheap shots, goons fighting skill players, skaters fighting goalies) was sickening.

agreed, they're just not an ideal trade partner. As for their failure to compete, they should have at least been pushing to almost compete for just missing the playoffs by now.

I'm sure they have some good players, but guys like Hemsky and Gagner have struggled this year when people thought a change of scenery would make a world of difference. People just assume the Oilers have talent because they have a bunch of early drafted players. What if it's not about getting out of Edmonton or improving the defense or improving the goaltending or development? What if their players just flat out suck?

that is an interesting thought. i dont know. i dont think the forwards they have now that are sought after suck. they may not be as good as some people think. but i have a hard time believing talent isnt there. id love any of them. it just couldnt be at the prices they think theyre gonna fetch.

i just hate all of that stuff in hockey. good hitting in the course of play. right on. but just straight being animals i cannot stand.
