Well the thing is Greiss can be replaced by any back up in the league, including Zatkoff. I wouldn't mind that one bit, if MAF gets hurt well then we are f'ed.

I meant from a trade standpoint. If Edmonton would take Greiss+ for Perron I'd do that deal immediately.

Sure, who wouldn't? But all the "rumors" I'm seeing regarding Perron are considerably more sexy than the stuff I've seen proposed in here.

Every team in the league had the chance to make Greiss their starter last offseason. None did. He's got limited trade value.

To be fair, Edm did trade for their goaltenders. They were not active in free agency.

But also to be fair, no goalie will help them.

yeah I agree, then the province of Edmonton would burn their arena to the ground, and fight off police with frozen urine filled balloons.

The big one is Anisimov who isn't all that sexy, but that is just the base of the trade according to reports.

Not every team was shopping for a starting goalie in the offseason. Edmonton went into this summer with the combo of Fasth and Scrivens, and weren't looking for a goalie. So far that pairing hasn't worked out at all.

I agree. I'm sure Pens could jump in and make a run at him. Not sure what I'd be comfortable giving for him because I'm not sure of his value.

Sutter> anisimov

But I didn't know perron was 3.8 cap hit... I know that takes dupes spot.. but scuds or martin has to be moved for other help..

I think pens will get 2 new players by trade deadline amd sutter or martin is moved.. hopefully it's scuds tho

I don't think I would do Sutter for Perron at this point. I probably would of before the season started but Sutter has impressed me this season.

You don't continue to collect 1B or 2A goalies in that situation (though that's been Edmonton's M.O. for years), you get a bona fide 1. Griess isn't a bona fide 1.

It's tough because in any talk about possible trades with Edmonton, logic kind of flies out the window - they're unpredictable.

2 things...

1) We are talking about Edm, so they would probably listen to it.

2) Greiss isn't a bona fide #1 goalie right now, but that doesn't mean he can't be one when given a starting job. Hell, half the Penguins fans in here were ready to ship Fleury out of here and give Greiss the reigns if he showed just a little promise this year. The kid has skill, and has yet to even be given a shot at being a #1.

I referenced their total unpredictability in my post...who knows what they' ll actually do, if they do anything at all, which seems to be their most predictable move...guessing we'll still be talking about Perron in February!

All true, but once again I'm (wrongly, probably) thinking logically about what the Oilers should do. If I'm GM, I'd be out for a G that I can count on for a decade, to finally settle the position. But like we both agree, that doesn't mean the Oilers won't continue to try to take other teams' 2s and try to make them 1s.

What options do they have besides drafting and developing or continue to try to find a backup with NHL experience that suddenly blossoms?

It's kind of rare for good bona fide 1's to be traded.

Griess is not a #1 and he is a UFA this year. I'm willing to bet EDM will not make a move for a G that can walk after this year. Maybe Jarry, they can retain him longer and their G situation is pitiful. Also, EDM will not be moving Yak, Eberle and Perron. Maybe Perron and 1 other, but not all 3.

And it's even rarer for them to want to go to Edmonton. But they're got two 2 to 1 reclamation projects already. It's a hard problem to figure out, and that's why I'm glad the Penguins didn't go down that road by letting Fleury walk. But eventually they have to go all-in to figure it out.

I don't follow the Oil at all. Haven't had a chance to watch any of their games this year. But one thing I"m absolutely positive about is if your team doesn't play competent D (defensmen and forwards), your tender has no chance.

Hall, Eberle, Yak, RNH are all highly skilled guys. I dont see anyone upfront that has a Kunitz, or PH quality. Not much grit on the team, they get beat up a lot. They seem like they have a lot of top 4 young Dmen.

They're also incredibly young. Patience would probably be their best course of action.

What Edmonton should do is trade Perron for as many assets as possible and just start offering teams like Colorado firsts for guys like ROR. I'm sure Colorado would think long and hard about Petry, a young forward and a top ten pick for ROR.

Yeah and they have 3 guys all locked up for several years. Perron and Yak are the most likely to move. But they should probably start dealing their 1st rnd picks for established players. Jarry could be of interest to them.

If I were te Oilers manager O'Reilly would've been an Oiler by now. Yakupov would be the main piece to get their true #2 C.

ROR only has a year left after this year. A lot of teams will be calling his agent his last year, he will have a choice as to where to go.
