I'm by no means an expert, but I believe as soon as his Euro season is over.

and Kunitz is old.

Looking like CBJ and EDM working a deal or more. Perron and Anisimov the names being thrown around as main parts.

He looks solid, Gunner. We also have Oscar Sunqvist. He is a big guy who should get consideration. I have no numbers on him but he was impressive in the preseason with the Pens. I cried a tear when he was sent back to Europe. I wonder can he come back? Anyone know?

When his Euro season is over, just like Kapanen, unless their seasons run too long then they will not be able to be placed on the roster for the playoffs. Our best hope is that their teams stink it up.

love it.

good article on kings blog about jake muzzin. man does he make the pens look bad. I told them I see it as revenge for robert lang

- ChrisMS

I think Despres would be better than Muzzin IF given a chance on the top 4. You heard it first here

Muzzin was an absolute mess coming out of College though. There is no way anyone saw his play coming on this strong. Even he didn't.

And yes, I think Despres will become a very solid #4 defensemen for this team by seasons end.

its interesting that his game looks slowed, and duper is out and crosby was slumping. chicken or egg?
- ChrisMS

Yeah I don't get the kunitz thing at all ... He's 35 not 42... With a team friendly contract who stats have increased over the last season and a quarter ... Haters will hate ... There are also a lot of people that just look at the name on the jersey... Kunitz is blue collar ...

I agree trading him would be a huge mistake ... It's validation for the many of us that blamed his stunted development on disco dan... Lol how many threads spent argueing that .... Good times!!!!

Let me try to be clear about the Kunitz or Dupuis situation: they both are good complimentary players for a Cup contending team but with "their current type of skill level", they should be 3rd fiddle on their respective lines. We have to acknowledge that. No shame in saying we need a Perron or a Kane to work harder on the boards for us now. We need at least a couple hardworking top 6 players.

We could turn N.Foligno in one of them.

Agreed.

If we lose Perron to ccbj I say pull the trigger on eberle or kane and maybe even get yak for geno

I feel like a broken record... But based on what stats??? 30 g and 60 to 70 points are not "3rd line players" or "complimentary" they and key pieces... I don't get it??? Normally when you claim a player is declining you show evidence to back up that claim... "He looked slow last night" is not evidence when a guy has 17 points in 20 games!!!

Trade a D man to the Ducks for etem now. Another injury on their backend.

As long as the pens continue to win and be the top offense in the league there is no rush to make a deal ... My gut is it will be a minor deal to reinforce the top six ... Martin and sutter probably not going anywhere ... I also think it's atleast a possibility that both erhoff and Martin are let go at seasons end and replaced with harrington , dumo, poulliot ... In that case scuds will be retained for his " veteran presence" ... It's not the sexy scenario you guys like to think about ... But it's probably a good possibility!

This is kind of off the wall, but the Oilers are in desperate need of a goalie. Since Fleury signed his new contract, how about working a deal around Greiss and Perron.

Etem is the best buy low option. Id be okay dealing Dumoulin but nothing more.

they have like 5 young forwards I would like more than etem so the biggest thing would be price. They're good trade partners

Agree with everything. 1st in goals scored per game, 6th in goals against per game. Looking like a 2 team race in the Metro. 9 of their next 12 at home. What's the rush?

And Kunitz > Perron, and it's not close. Personally, I think Kunitz is keeping a little in reserve right now, and rightly so. He doesn't need to be running around trying to kill people in November, he needs to be healthy and have some energy come May.

The sour grapes to not even mention MAF's record last night in the blog is just wow. Good representing pens nation on HB!

- ChrisMS

Its a shame that certain people will not and cannot bring themselves to enjoy the best goalie in the history of the Penguins organization. I have this fight every week it seems like, its just not worth the battle. But rest assured knowing this. 99.999% of people that hate MAF, do so because of things that are unrelated to play and ability. People either hate the way he looks, or hate the way he carries himself. They made the decision before he even steps on the ice, ALL Pittsburgh fans do it; throughout every sport. Its weird, I literally know people (more than one) that hate him because of his teeth, yeah his f'n teeth.

Not even to mention a major milestone is sad.

I bet those same people are fully aware of Antonio Browns 5 catches for 50 yards or more; incredibly impressive meaningful record breaking made up crap filled achievement.

yeah, but he's a young goalie that could be a starter in other places(Edmonton). It would be worth the gamble, and maybe Greiss likes being a starter, and re-ups with them.

Well the thing is Greiss can be replaced by any back up in the league, including Zatkoff. I wouldn't mind that one bit, if MAF gets hurt well then we are f'ed.

You'd have to imagine if they make a trade for a guy like Greiss and make him a starter, he'd be willing to sign a nice contract at starter money regardless of the city.

On the other hand, it's definitely a little scary for a cup contender to not have depth at goal. I'm not a Zatkoff believer.

You do realize that the year the Pens won the Cup, our back up was Mathieu freaking Garon............

Every team in the league had the chance to make Greiss their starter last offseason. None did. He's got limited trade value.
