I think this is the point in time they need to start considering the fact that maybe all those first overalls are not going to pan out to be 80-100 point superstars with the exception of Taylor Hall, I think he has the goods. As for the rest of em, they all look like 45-60 point players.

That's gotta suck though. It would be devastating for a franchise to have a 1st overall pick not pan out to be something special, let alone 3 or 4 of them.

If you look at Chicago and Pitts, they both had some good vets (horcoff and hemsky dont count) to help teach the kids. Also had decent tending. Khabibulin in chi town and theodore I think at one point and Fleury was better back then.

Oilers haven't had any of that.

I think the problem is that they banked on forward talent doing it all. Not even great two way forwards either.

They messed up by trying to get better too early. The year they got Nurse, they should have had Seth Jones. And last year, they needed Ekblad. Not to mention picking Yakupov instead of moving down and getting Ryan Murray or taking Galchenyuk 1st.

Oh and a goalie. They really needed a goalie like Ryan Miller or Jonas Hiller.
