Of course. Guys like Prust and Weise in Montreal do exactly that. They stick up for their team mates, but they can play hockey as well. - Pecafan Fan
yeah.. without the removal of the instigator rule guys like orr and whatnot are dinosaurs now.. i have changed my tune on that |

I've grown tired of hearing fans wax poetic about the great era of hockey before the instigator rule.
FFS, it was brought in in 1992 (although there had been previous similar rules) - that's before Gary Bettman was even commish.
75% of fans who criticize the rule never watched a game without it. |

Stein was the main pusher of the rule, which was a gm in 92 but a 2 and 5 were added in 96... Just a little tidbit of info here, in 93 there were 15 50 goal scorers, 7 the next year never more than 3 since, quite a drop off in 1 year... Terrible rule that makes zero sense from anyone, stars were never more targeted than since it came in, oh and actual players verify this...
An Associated Press story published Oct. 4, 1992 said, "With new rules regarding fighting, among other things, the NHL has tried to tone down the violence and build up its image. The idea is to make the game more attractive to borderline hockey fans -- in other words, those that exist in most areas of the United States. That's the main object of acting president Gil Stein, whose stated goal is to make hockey the premier spectator sport in the U.S. before the turn of the century." - NHL.com
What a stupid reason, I am not and never was a borderline fan, and I don't think these bums ever talked to a borderline fan, all borderline American fans talk about is the fights... So if you think this rule was brought in for you your wrong... You like to look down on the past saying working class hero arguments and such, guess what, it was working class guys that built the league that multimillionaire pretty boys play now so a little respect i'd wager... |

The NHL would like to have zero player to player accountability because like big government, they think players are little babies who need to be looked after, it's a philosophy, the only thing keeping fighting in the game is players who understand the need for that deterrent, i guess we should all listen to john shannon and damian cox... - aminnes
I hate it when big government ruins everything, including hockey. Maybe the NHL should merge with the NRA. They know a thing or two about deterrents - best way to stop violence is to arm everyone. |

Because he took Kadri off the PP? If so it was Spott not Carlye and 0 PP points in 21 games? He doesn't deserve to be on there. |
