The NHL would like to have zero player to player accountability because like big government, they think players are little babies who need to be looked after, it's a philosophy, the only thing keeping fighting in the game is players who understand the need for that deterrent, i guess we should all listen to john shannon and damian cox...

I never once said that fighting should be banned from the game.

I'm saying I'm glad that useless players like Brashear are pushed aside and make place to players who can both play and fight.

So you think Shawn Thorton was a useless goon?

He is done now, but he was an effective 4th line player.

Also, he didn't play in the Cup Finale.

You don't know what use he had, you need to find out how his team mates valued him, your watching from the stands you have no idea thats why you should listen to the players not the media, "goons" are the most beloved guys on the team... Tony Twist has some good interviews about the details and how things go down on the ice, and believe me he was a deterrent as much as the guy on the other team was...

Oh good, the working class hero argument has arrived.

The deterrent argument has always been and always will be crap.

When Janssen gooned Kaberle, what happened?

Next game, Belak punched Janssen a couple of times, and Janssen spent 5 minutes in the penalty box, which actually helped out the Devils.

Wow, what a deterrent.

Why doesn't football have fights?

Why doesn't rugby have fights?

I used to love fights from guys who could play hockey.

Wendel Clark.

Todd Gill.

The entire Habs team against the entire Nordiques team.

But to be honest with you, I wouldn't miss it a bit if they banned it.

It's just no longer a part of the game. The game has changed.

Players like that are so useful that they aren't even dressed in the playoffs.

Your argument is irrelevant.

I'm not talking about tough guys.

I'm talking about Goons.

Chicago won 2 cups while being the team with the less penalty majors in the league. Pretty sure LA doesn't have a typical goon on their squad either. And by goon, I mean, Brashear and the likes. You know? Useless players.

Edit: I could add the Red Wings... and probably the Penguins but I don't remember their complete lineup.

- Pecafan Fan

ok.. thats the only point i was making.. the role of the tough guy has changed, but someone to stick up for his team mates is still required

Remember when Gleason one-punched "30-goal scorer, top-6" Kulemin and turned him into "two-way 3rd line" Kulemin?

It wouldn't bother me it it was banned.

It doesn't bother me that they keep it.

As long as the dumb staged fights are at an all time low I'm happy.

Again, your speaking like a spectator, I will go with what guys on the ice think, and 98% say it's a deterent, and the season is 82 games...

Of course. Guys like Prust and Weise in Montreal do exactly that. They stick up for their team mates, but they can play hockey as well.

I don't have that freedom...it's basically my album...my songs, my vocals, my acoustic tracks..spending 5 hrs per session and i gotta keep my poop together without burning out...and i'm not used to it yet, dont want to waste the studio time and effort of the guy at the board....it will definitely get easier and quicker as time goes on though...it is already after 3 sessions

I think if you can't find a good player that fights though, you should still have someone that fights, it's still better than having none, but obviously a guy that can play the game is preferred...
