We are close to this point. We don't have the team St Louis did when they changed. But they went from a run and gun guy (like Kruger) to Hitchcock (more defensive style ala Eakins). I'm not on board with all of Eakins decisions but his style once we get the proper d and center depth will win more than Kruger.
- Iggysbff

So once we get a better team than we have now, which is better than what Kruger had, we will win more than under Kruger? come on man, you're better than this.

Saying his style is one thing. This group of players can't do it. He's always been known for his defense first hockey. Fact.

He got fooled by Howsen into Nikitin

And Chabot wanted Fasth over Hiller

He made some good moves and some bad moves. Needs a good one right about now.

- Iggysbff

Yes, he does. Unfortunately for him, he is not dealing from a position of strength.

It's always harder making deals when the hounds can smell blood.

classic troll move. Start calling names. Then try to turn it around and try to look innocent.

Try again. Your trolling is LAME.

Iggy, serious question, how many chromosomes were you born with? Based on your posts today I'm guessing around 28.

Kruger didn't fare much better and had a goalie standing on his head. His system was unsustainable.

He was all pumped up about Eakins fitness philosophy. Because everyone knows the biggest issue with the average NHL player is their fitness levels
- SpoiledByOil

I agree it's not a number one priority. But it is important and it's of the tactics of Hartley. He's instilled this with the Flames and they are one of the best conditioned teams in the league. This allows them to out-work teams constantly and wear them down during their games. I think its a huge reason why they are so good in the 3rd period.

When you consider our record against east/west and the fact that his tenure was entirely against western teams with a worse team to coach and a younger and smaller core, an argument can be made, quite easily, that Kruger was/is a far better coach than Eakins

You're acting like the only way to improve the oil is to fire everybody and that there aren't people in the organization that are trying to make improvements. MacT has made a pile of moves since becoming GM, granted not all of them good but he at least has been willing to make changes unlike his predecessor.
- rathagor

Look, MacT is doing the best he can with limited knowledge. Maybe the team needs management personal that has some experience? Maybe?

that has more to do with work ethic than fitness. I would argue that at least 80%+ of NHL players are fitness freaks. I mean, it's not like we still had pancake Penner on our team when we brought Eakins in

Mctavish is a genius. Offering Perron for a top line center. Wish I thought of that.

I have never been sold on Eakins and after last season less so, however I did plan on giving him 20 games this season to prove himself. If he didn't get 20 point in the first 20 games then i'd be all for firing him.
- rathagor

As did I- I think that was fair- I am surprised with all the media etc- that he has lasted to coach this road trip... But I bet that unless this team pulls the rabbit out of their ass that This team will not be the same when it returns from the road trip- either in player or coach- I dont care which- but would prefer an experienced NHL coach this time if I had the opportunity for input...

Kruger's system relied on a strong PP, which I agree isn't a recipe for long term success. However we still should have a decent PP but don't. Half the time our PP looks like more of a liability than an asset.

From my recollection, I do believe professional hockey franchises do fire their Prez and GM to make room for a better alternative. You haven't seen this happen in the NHL?

Is everyone involved with the oil scared to make a move to at least try to improve?

- bloatedmosquito

No.
