no doubt i would rather he was still here, love Clutterbuck but we could have had him for a lot less.
Nino is a first line talent, but he wasn't when he was here, he was told to work on areas of his game by the staff (his defensive coverage) and he either couldn't grasp it or wouldn't try. Either way, you EARN the first line, something he never did.
He shouldn't have even been in the NHL to begin with, he should have developed in the AHL for a couple seasons. His speaking out against the way he was being handled was a bad move on his camps part, but ultimately he was handled wrong, weather it was Snow's fault trying to minimize payroll, or Wang's fault making him do so.. it was still a cluster*&k by upper management.

Cannot argue with these points X. While I did not like how the Isles had Nelson sitting in the press box for those games, the Isles have done a better job in handling the prospects now.

Huh, I get all that, I'm still wondering how Halak isn't an Islander goalie because he wasn't drafted by them.

I never said that, but the post doesn't warrant further discussion, imho.

Because Halak played great... in other words DESPITE that bum Strait. I find it amazing that the same guys who were ecstatic Moulson was gone b/c he was terribble in defensive zone are OK with a D-man being horrific and almost costing us a game we won in a shootout. This was a division rival .. and if you thing they were not aware Hickey and deHaan were sick till 5 pm that is a riot too. Strait should not play on this taam anymore... period.

Nobody is OK with Strait. Jesus. Two starters were sick

Mayfield has been there for 2 ++ years.
- niteislander

So? Does that mean he's ready for the big leagues?

Strait should NEVER be an option again.. .which is my original point. snow needs to get rid of this guy b/c Cap is too dumb to see the nose on his face. We did win the game.. despite having Strait on ice for 20 mins.

ironic that the koolaide guy has become the Debbie Downer now that we are winning..huh?

Then you have Mayfield, Pulock, or Reinhart sitting in the press box waiting for an injury which I'm not OK with. It's not that I just think you're not looking at the big picture in this instance.

Mayfield has been in b-port for 3 years. He is a MUCH better option than Strait.
- niteislander

Mayfield has been in bport for a year and 20 games. If their is a long term injury then you can talk about a call up but last minute illness you play who is on your roster. Yes strait stinks but they got through it

I have stories about Nino that can only be told in public. Let's just say he was not loved in the nhl locker room and despised in the Ahl locker room. if the kid grew up and becomes a good player than good for him

Nobody is happy at all that strait was playing. But sometimes your 8th dman has to play, was he awful yes. Did they win the game? Yes.. Move on. I'm not burning a call up for one game

Off topic but funny as hell, even coming from a Jets fan...

Thread off of reddit saying that the Jets are officially eliminated and the 1st comment is this picture... http://i.imgur.com/eFuQ3sI.png

If isles maintain near the top the whole year, have to admit Snow & Crappy deserve an award, and I'm not trying to be a homer either... More Snow than Crappy bc of what he FINALLY did in off-season........

*remember when I said this team gets 2 legit NHL dman, team will make PO's, while others said 1* baring no major injuries of course.....

There's no award for most improved. We're all just so used to a sh!tty team that when our GM actually does his job and we see the results that are possible, we see it as an amazing accomplishment. 20 games is a nice sample size but let's see where things are in a few months. Keep in mind a team like Boston, who is without Chara yet still in 2nd in their division. This team has not been fully tested for any amount of time, yet.
It is encouraging though....

They couldn't make a call because if their roster space and you aren't getting someone from bport to Long Island in an hour at 5p. Bport to Long Island at 5p on a Monday is a 2 to 3 hour drive with traffic.. Guys got sick.. Strait got us through the game
- Dan Petriw

Strait also has fulfilled the required number of player meetings & practices.

Good god some people just don't want to be happy. A substitute defenseman substituted for a sick player. I don't see the issue. If Capuano stuck deHaan in the press box to give Strait a go, then sure, I'm right there with you. But if you really think that we were going to waive two players, and exposing Donovan to waivers carries a large inherent risk of him getting claimed, to send them to Bridgeport to call up two young guys at the last minute to play one, maybe two games, just to make them go back to Bridgeport and recall the original two guys...then...I don't even know what to say. It's nonsensical and asinine. Strait can play one game here and there without the sky falling.
- eichiefs9

So true. First place tie, hottest team in the league and 3 points from the 1 seed in the conference and this guys is crying about the isles 7th d-man You can't make this up. He was probably the guy sitting behind me last night who leaned to his buddy halfway through the 3rd and said the game was one of the most boring games he's been to

Really they are 15-6 and have played the Sharks 2x Pitt 3x Tampa2x Avs 2x Bruins,Ducks,Kings and have already made their west coast trip which was brutal and still went 3-2. yes its early but they have had a very tough schedule so far and have looked pretty damn good so far, but like you said its early but they look very good right now

Assuming you knew at that time that deHaan/Hickey couldn't go that night.

And you have to send Strait and Donovan down to make room. And then call them back up and send the young guy(s) down again.

It's absurd. They can play a game or two, it's not the end of the world.

Wow my duh...on player movement as opposed to moving players!!!
