Man, he's already making teams that passed on him regret it. Dal Colle + Ho Sang in the same round, same draft... not too shabby.

I'm not gonna be shocked when somebody Boulerice's Ho Sang.

I wasnt singling you out there.. There are many people who felt that way. Many people said he was a bust, or would never live up to his potential, etc. etc.

The biggest problem is that people see size and immediately correlate that with strength and physicality. On top of that the org. made the John LeClair connection, but truthfully, they share ZERO similarities (aside from size and nationality). Fans hate Jeff Carter because of the same stuff.

As for Schenn, he never had a chance to be dynamic. He was big slow and only showed elite talent in the hitting department. He was a routine healthy scratch in Toronto. I was pissed the day I heard that. Schenn is a 90's d-man dream... If it were only the 90's.

Luke Schenn was not a routine healthy scratch in Toronto.

That was an insane deal, looking back. It's like having some ex-girlfriend who broke your heart call you every day and talk about her great new boyfriend for, what, 12 years?
- jmatchett383

It was nuts. I for one didn't want him bought out. He was still a good player he just could never live up to that contract. Pretty sure he lead the KHL in scoring for a few yrs and just recently retired. Good guy and player

Yeah. He's got to harness that energy. That's one of our projects. Keeping him caged for a bit and helping that maturation along.

He's a very obvious talent. But I have to say I was really happy that the Flyers didn't pick him.

That is exactly what I mean -- if you scratch Schenn tonight, yeah, you can say that he is playing the worst. But then you are a hypocrite because you aren't scratching the worst forward

If you scratch him for (frank)ing up in goals against, then Coliacovo would have drawn in in Saturday, because MacDonald would have been sitting right next to Schenn

- AllInForFlyers

A coach is not going to scratch a defenseman for making one mistake. Especially a defenseman who is just getting back, coming off of an injury. And Akeson is not scrached because he's made mistakes.

Very good draft(at least looks that way) and Snow got panned by most on here(non Isles fans) for not giving the pick to Buffalo. I knew we'd be improved this season with what was at stake and the move to Brooklyn next season. I wasn't expecting the offseason we had though. I was praying for Boychuck and an average tender. When we got what we did i was shocked honestly. My biggest concern was coaching after our blue line and I have to say for once our coach is making sensible decisions in the last ten games. Hope it stays that way.

The thing is we are pretty deep in reference to prospects still. Reinhart, Mayfield, Pulock. Ho Sang, Dal Cole. Not saying skipping a draft is ideal but we are almost in a position prospect wise that we can. I think we are still considered top 5? Leddy is 23 and an RFA who we will get signed and if we can get Boychuck signed that's another 4 useful yrs out of him. With Reinhart and Pulock tearing up the AHL and Hamonic, DeHaan, and to a lessr extent Hickey already in place the blue line looks set for a long time.

The cap hits are significant for Kulemin and Grabovski but with the value contracts we have in place for our core long term it's not a huge deal for a team that was scraping the floor. Those two have been a huge part of our success on top of it. Boychuck especially if signed 2 seconds is a huge underpayment and the Leddy trade was a steal at this point. He's been that good borderline incredible. Hawks fans biggest gripe was his defensive game. He's been incredible in his own end and offensively.

Geez, sorry. Didn't realize how long this was.

You'll be hurt by not having picks later on. Boychuk is the key though. You need to resign him

I can't say i blame you but when we snuck back into the first with the pick we got from you guys i thought it was a good high risk/reward pick in a weak draft. I'm not huge on "show boats" myself but the kids talent is off the charts.

Snow had to get this team to the playoffs because of the first rounder he gave away for this coming draft. If he didn't and the islanders ended up getting one of the top two picks he would have been crucified.

You assume it will be easy to get Boychuk and Leddy signed. Leddy maybe but Boychuk will want to get paid.

As of now this drafts a wash for us. Chances are we aren't getting into the first rd in a very strong draft. Losing a second in next yrs is not monumental when you look at what the % of NHL success is from that round. With the depth we have in juniors and the AHL I'm not worried. I don't think a lot of people understand that drafting was this teams only concern for 6 years. Our place in the standings reflected it. I'd love to be in the first round of the next draft but I believe the negative impact is far less then most think save for Islander fans.

Leddy is an RFA. Boychuck is a different story. I'm not assuming anything. Snow has a microscope on him. We have new owners that are taking over majority in a year and a half. there's so much to why this yr is huge other than that first rounder.

Was the Calvert goal really that much of a mistake on Luke's part? Looking at the replay Luke is just slow. He is what he is. Didn't seem like a horrible mistake, although he was a tad late in starting to get back. Luke is what he is.

They have plenty of cap space though, so as long as he wants to be there, I can see that deal getting done without issue really...

I know he is a RFA. Doesn't make him and easy sign. All it takes is someone to offersheet him and his price goes to more then you like.

With what defenseman are getting these days it would be hard for hs agent to not advise him to wait until FA and get a bidding war. I could see him around 5-5.5 range.

Yes it was a mistake on his part. Watch the replay again. There are subtleties in positioning that make the biggest difference in a fast game, especially when you aren't the fleetest of foot.

Id be happy to give that to him and I doubt Snow and the new owners would have issue with it either. They didnt trade for those two without thinking they were going to put an all out effort to get them signed. Those are risks every team takes. Youre reaching with the offer sheet but if it happens whatever. I still do that deal if I did it over again and then we get a few hugh picks on top of it. I could get hit by a car when I walk across the parking lot to the game tonight but im not going to worry about it.

Luke Schenn was not a routine healthy scratch in Toronto.
- MJL

IIRC the season before he was traded he was indeed a healthy scratch multiple times... If you are arguing the "routine" portion.. go for it.
