We already have one of the top 10 forwards in the league and a guy to build a team around in Giroux plus Voracek is emerging as another superstar. Add in Simmonds, Read, Couturier and BSchenn and you have a good place to start building the team. If Ghost, Sanheim, Morin and/or Hagg can turn into top 4 dmen, we'll be in a much better place. Mason is good enough to be our starter too.

While I agree that G and Voracek are two of the best players in the game at their positions and Mason has been excellent since his trade from Columbus, most of the other guys are not pulling their weight and I don't view them currently as game changers. Couturier and Read especially...Simmonds is very streaky and B. Schenn finally seems to be turning a corner. The jury is still out on Ghost, Sanheim, Morin and Hagg because we just don't know how they'll develop. If it takes those guys another 2-3 years to be full time NHLers and guys like Read and Couturier do not improve, you really think they'll still be part of the core of this team? I highly doubt it!

By the time the Flyers are a contender, they will have needed to sign Coburn to a new deal for him to still be here. Since I have no interested in re-signing a 32 year old Coburn to a long term deal with a cap hit north of 6 million, I would absolutely look to move him at the deadline, especially if they can get a 1st.

Exactly.

Your telling me if Vancouver wants a Dman to replace Hamhuis for the playoffs and offer a 1st and Virtanen someone would say no? We need Coburn that much?

I feel the other way. This is the year that the Flyers can use players they have and aquire some younger high end skilled assets

Unpopular? 90% of this board has been clamoring for VL and Umberger to get bumped to the 4th-line. We're with ya, bro!

4th line? They should have their arses stapled to the press box!

No. You said he has too much value to the Flyers to be traded.

Please back up your point as you always request others to do

I absolutely get this.
But this current team relies on his minutes and it would set them back a bit to lose him.

I think Hagg is the closest prospect they have being ready to be an NHL top four D and he isn't ready to assume Coburn's role. He may never even be that good, it's too soon to say.

But I agree that the idea of paying Coburn 6m is absurd.

I think the way viable NHL D are valued, Coburn would get a first rounder back, but it would be a lower 1st from a playoff team looking to make a long run.

Not a first rounder from EDM or Buffalo.

I don't doubt it. No reason why both can't continue to be productive and solid players 2-3 years from now. Couturier is 21 years old!

I'm sure someone will call me a troll but that's genuinely not my intention here. That said...nobody on earth is trading for MacDonald and that contract.

I think I fell asleep while writing that post because I don't think Bellemare can be third line shutdown center.

I don't think a 6M cap hit for him is that much of a big deal in 3 years if he is your veteran on the D Corp...if the Cap goes up as expected and the young D are still on ELCs or bridge contracts I think the cost of our D looks much better by that point...I think if Coby took 4 at 6M at that point it would be in line for what he is worth...just my thoughts though looking at the possible CAP in 2-3 years...

I was at the game last night and Mason was unreal. Easily could have been a 6-0 Isles win last night. One of the best goalie performances of the year so far

He's really been good since coming over. We all know his rep, but Mason has been a good goalie for the Flyers

Rinaldo needs to stop being played as an NHL regular because he's not. Get rid of Akeson. Bring Powe up and scratch VLC and the Zombie. MacD needs to play 15 minutes or less a night. Streit is bad too. Not sure what to do with him because he actually contributes offensively.
