I do love the Phanatic though. Boston tried to bring in a mascot but the fans hated him

Coming soon to a team near you.

They're so... neat... looking

I don't see what the advertiser gets out of that. You can't even read some of those ads.

And no one is going to buy a jersey with all of that crap on it.

Not to mention, when I'm watching a hockey game, I'm not looking at little ads all over equipment. "Hey, look.. Stamkos has a RedBull ad on his jockstrap... makes me want to go out and buy a RedBull!!"

The Phanatic actually has the ability to make people laugh though. Most mascots are so dumb. Did you ever see Hip Hop, the Sixers old mascot? He would literally just breakdance and dunk using a trampoline

The Phillies probably also make money off of the Phanatic, in merch.

I would imagine lots of other teams would love to make that free merchandising money.

The problem is that the Phanatic's schtick is pretty good and has been around since the 70's. I still like the Phanatic (I do not accept your negative judgement) and my kid LOVES the Phanatic.

I also think this sort of thing works better in baseball, because, let's face it....baseball can be interminable at times. And 81 home games is a lot.

Unless you have a super recognizable logo or, like soccer, that logo is prominently featured across the front of the jersey, I don't see how that sort of advertising is very effective.

The puck is in the left hand corner of the ice, yet Schenn positions himself all the way over on the opposite side of the ice, near the boards. He should be atleast 2 or 3 strides towards the middle of the ice. Columbus executes a quick up breakout, and look how far Schenn has to skate, just to get back to the middle of the ice, to get into the play? That's how he got beat. If he is positioned better, even with his lack of speed, he would've easily been in position to defend that rush.
Same thing on the PK goal. He's caught flat footed and reached for the pass. If he moves his feet, just a half a stride, he can easlily deflect that pass.
Same thing on the play where MacDonald turned the puck over in the previous Columbus game. He has coverage, stops moving his feet and puck watches. His man skates to the far post for a slam dunk.

This kid is caught flat footed and puck watching far too much.

- MJL

Thanks. With his terrible mobility, unfortunately he can't afford any positional screw ups. It usually costs the team.

Not really related to anything, but:

It seems like the city doesn't care about this current Flyers team more than usual. It seems like this team has no "identity" as people would say. No one cares about this particular collection of players. Sure, there's Giroux and Voracek, and there's Simmonds and other good players. But the city really connected with the LOD days, the 09/10 team, and even the 11/12 team.

My dad went to the Lindros/LeClair induction and left after the first. He said the Flyers were playing really well, but he just didn't feel like he was missing anything by staying. Obviously, success on the ice would help, but even still, it kinda feels off, like no one really cares what happens, and I think it's even affecting me. It's great that the Flyers won 4-2, but it was a half-hearted cheer when they did.

I don't know exactly what I'm saying because I can't find the right words. But do you guys have the same kinda feeling?

- jmatchett383

I hear what you're saying. This is a very bland team , especially when compared to the Bullies, the Keenan era teams, the Lindros teams or even the 09-10 club. While they have 2 star players in Giroux and Voracek , neither is a colorful personality that attracts the casual sports fan. I think a lot of fans were attached to guys like Pronger, Briere and Hartnell and they just don't have a close connection to the current club.
