No GM is going to trade for Clarkson - the weight of "NHL's worst contract" prevents any GM from even considering it.
He's a Leaf for life.

The only exception is the new Burkie rule that lets teams keep some salary. I don't see Clarkson or Phaneuf moving any way.
Lupul and maybe Gardiner are more likely candidates.

Roy's retirement messed up Avs. DRW just lost Fedorov. Dallas fading/old. NYR a mess. Devils defending champs. Many would have picked them.

Not sure lockout dinged a goalie more than it did Ed Belfour.....he wasn't about to work his ass off in an off-year to be back & awesome..

Sundin, McCabe, Nolan, Tucker, Kaberle all in prime. Roberts/Corson/Nieuwendyk all effective still. Leetch still signed.....
Belfour and Nolan both had significant surgeries that would have left them out for most if not whole year.

The "whiny" Leafs of 2001 and 2002 were the magic years. Sundin's broken hand and a tough Irbe killed them in 2002 and a stupid Domi hit killed them in 2001. |
