GM too, team has talent and assets. They could have been a playoff competitive team this year.

I was afraid we'd do what the oilers did when they decide to recycle their old trash and hire Mactavish as the GM, because it didn't work as a coach it's bound to work as the guy building the team.

While I fully understand your view on this, and, in a perfect world, that would be the unbiased truth you just spoke.
However, this is not a perfect world, and a new owner that just invested close to 3/4 billion dollars in to the sport over all can expect a reasonable return for that type of investment when viewed in context with the lottery behind closed doors.

I'll error on the side of reason and say McDavid is a Sabre come draft day.
And while I'm in no way advocating I know factually the fix is in on the lottery, I can use common sense to dictate what my personal opinion on the % that McDavid is a Sabre, which, is 100% to me, in any event.

- TWGsabres

I will never buy into the idea that the lottery is fixed. Ever. And I don't understand why people would ever say that it is. Total BS.

If it was fixed, why would the NHL last seven first overall picks be in small market cities with two being Tampa Bay and Florida? Sure, the Islanders are not in a small market, but New York is a Ranger town. Nobody cares about those teams as they are irrelevant.

And looking at the past first overall draft picks in the NBA does not look like any reason to believe their lottery was fixed for those team.

I was actually just going to add, even though i truly feel for the fans there, but that franchise doesn't deserve to land a get out of jail free card like McDavid or Eichel.

I know it's not something you can earn, but after all the textbook mismanagement, coaching errors and just flat out poor trading/scouting, to see them land one of those two would break my heart.

Hmm i can't really see that. Buffalo's not exactly a place the NHL would ever put "the fix" in for. He'll get a reasonable return (eichel) but I think a different team gets McDavid in june, my guess is the Flyers.
- Sabresfan-365

Totally agree with the first part. Not sure why you feel the Flyers will get the first overall pick. They should get better than where they are now as they did last year.

I think that's idea though. Big markets like NY don't really need the help do they. Tampa and Florida need(ed) the boost, Buffalo and NYC don't. A last place team with lot's of diehard hockey fans that manage to watch enough hockey even when the team is crap to land it on national television probably doesn't need the fix. You know, hypothetically of course.

A win tonight and an Edmonton loss puts us out of last

Edit: God bless Weber

- Sabresfan-365

Would it? I thought that ROW would be a tiebreaker and they would have six to Buffalo's four.

I guess I just think about it a little differently. If Tampa Bay and Phoenix were better teams than Chicago and New York, I still think a major network puts a Chicago vs New York game on TV and more people would watch that one rather than the other.

Right, I agree but it would at least keep them in the conversation. Pittsburgh essentially did a 180, if McDavid is as good as they say he could do the same for another franchise.

Yea that's my bad, forgot about that. Still makes me nervous though. It's not like they're out playing them or anything either. I'd hate to luck out of Mceichel.

Didn't get to see the game tonight, only caught the third on the radio. Was it all Enroth?

That game was the epitome of the guy's coaching career: moral victory and nothing more.

I wouldn't have called anything superhuman about Enroth. We played sound defensively

No odd man rushes, one penalty.

The team is playing pretty well all things considered

We went from Meszaros-Benoit to Ristolainen-Zadorov. Probably should have seen it coming.

I know the Isles have been winning games...
But from what I see, its been their scoring that's putting them over the top. Their defense & goaltending has been pretty average. If their scoring cools off, they could take quite a dip in the standings.
I know its a pretty big long shot to end up winning the lottery with their pick, but I am far from convinced they'll make the playoffs...
Here's hoping!

- jdfitz77

8-1 in our last 9, 7-0 when leading after two. defense is fine now that the new guys have become used to the other guys. back to back wins against the pens, i like how our team is coming together.
