The Los Angeles Kings would like to bolster their blueline at some point this season, as their newfound salary cap space has expanded their options.

The loss of Slava Voynov, who is suspended indefinitely, has left the Kings with a big hole on their blueline.
Kings GM Dean Lombardi would like to add a No.2 or No.3 defenseman, with just over $4 million in available salary cap space to play with.

The Kings had been taking calls on center Mike Richards, prior to receiving cap relief from Voynov being placed on the equivalent of long-term IR.

It's unclear if he's still in play, but two separate league executives told TFP the Kings will need to part with a "solid roster player" in order to acquire a top-tier defenseman.

Youngsters Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli are not available for trade, but top prospects Nick Shore, Valentin Zykov and this past June's first-round draft pick Adrian Kempe could be packaged in a deal, an Eastern Conference team executive speculated.

Unfortunately, before current ownership arrived, the emphasis was on profit (and taxpayer subsidies) which led to subpar management hires....which led to subpar coaches and player decisions...which led to subpar product on the ice/field. The fans (and taxpayers) have paid enough, been through enough poop, and deserve to have winning put before anything else. Some have mentioned that the Oilers may be trying to tank but IMo, no way they can let that happen. To much talent and to many 1st round picks there but I agree with what you said. The Leafs and Oilers will fire coaches before they tank.

Mcdavid might be a big enough prize that fan bases will be able to forgive either of those teams if it gets to that point. Mcdavid in toronto would be most beneficial to the nhl imo.

The Leafs and Oilers and maybe you can say the Sabres as well have caused there own troubles and failures however, the Sabres deserve McDavid but I doubt that happens. The Oilers have gotten there fair share of 1st round picks and for some reason they can't put it together, the Leafs are a mess all around.

I always thought he was a good, not great goalie. Most of my dislike came from the media hype he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The media hype that made him out to be something that he was not.

He started off strong to start the year and his play has fallen off. Much like his play in St Louis last year. IMO he is or will regret he wanted to move on. He was treated like a God here, he will soon find out real pressure playing in Vancouver.
