players not getting on the ice isn't always a good indication of anything.....see sharp, patrick. No i am NOT saying Akeson is remotely as good nor do I think he ever would be. what I am saying is it just seem to me he has not been put in a postion to take advantage of what he can do and I think that is short sighted.
- nastyflyergirl

Sharp played 72 NHL games the year the Flyers traded him, and put up 31 points and 14 goals. And he had big time wheels. I don't think Akeson can do what some think that he can do. And I think the Flyers know that. They also get to watch him every day in practice. The kid has to do something to earn more icetime. The same way that other kids that broke in on the 4th have done, such as Rinaldo, Raffl, and to a lesser extent Vandevelde. Even though he's older, Bellemare has also shown what he can do on the 4th line.

They have looked good, that Akeson-Bellemare-Rinaldo line. Been very effective.
- Jsaquella

Had a few decent games earlier in the season. But that was more due to Bellemare's skating and puck pursuit. Even Rinaldo has overshadowed Akeson.

Watching the games, the most obvious difference is in Akeson's play on the ice. Or do we not want to include that variable, and place zero culpability on the player himself, for why he can't get in the lineup?

From many Akeson supporters, it always he's not playing with the right players, or he's not in the right role. Never any blame on Akeson himself. Did it ever occur to you that one of the logical reasons why Akeson isn't playing is that he just isn't that good?

- MJL

That's a possibility, but I also realize that Akeson is just playing his first 20 games or so in the NHL, so it seems quite premature to make that kind of conclusion...because he's shown far many years in the AHL, and last season in the NHL, that he's a skilled player and capable of making plays producing points, against men. I highly doubt that, all of the sudden, over one summer, he became unable to produce.

Most people agreed going into the season that Akeson wasn't built to be a fourth liner. There are legitimate reasons for that. Yet that's the role he's mostly been given this season...is it really that surprising that he's not thriving in that role?

If you want to completely discount Akeson's body of work prior to this season, and ignore the fact that he's been put into a position that makes it pretty hard for him to exploit his best assets and play his best hockey, and you'd rather attribute his struggles this year to "just not being that good", that's up to you. I'm obviously taking more aspects of the situation into account when forming my opinion.

I disgaree but whatever. we all have opinions. I would like to see him get a fair shake. I don;t think he has. you do, i don't. neither of us are going to change our opinions. He looked very good last yr in the last game to make Berube give him a shot in the playoffs and outside of the unfortunate penalty, he looked very good again. I would like to see him put in that same position.

that's just your opinion that you're taking more aspects into account. I see the aspects that you think are preventing Akeson from succeeding as just excuses. Berube isn't looking for Akeson to produce points on the 4th line in my opinion. He's looking for him to play the game. The things he's being asked to do on the 4th line are the same things that would be expected of him if he played on the 2nd line. It's not the lack of offense for why Akeson isn't playing. It's because he doesn't bring anything other then offense to the team. And it isn't likely that he's going to produce enough offense to offset his weaknesses. That is why he is not playing.

He played 8 NHL games last year. Not enough to prove anything. He played well and earned a chance in making the team. He's gotten an opportunity, and hasn't done well with it.

And do you know how many players, even players that unlike Akeson were even drafted in the NHL, that don't get to play a single NHL game and never make it? Is it premature in their cases also that they were deemed not good enough?

Yeah, it's a good book as well.

I saw that they're going to bring The Stand to the big screen. They're going to do it as a series of 4 movies. I'm all in for that.

I really never read anything, but I will run to Stephen King and Dan Brown books.
