I have no problem with the non-salute. If the ACC fans and media are being knobs, (frank) em.
I wish all the Oilers fans would "salute " the Oilers in unison. Wouldn't it be great to see 16,000 fans give those sad sacks the finger at the same time? - Jeropotato
agreed. If the fans want to be childish & disrespectful, they don't deserve a salute. Simple. |

They have run players out of town before and coaches, why poke the bear that feeds you? - LeafMan
And the players we've run out of town didn't deserve it, and it ended up weakening our team, yet here we are, doing it all over again.

Running Dion out of town wouldn't be the worst thing, IMO. |

They gonna run the whole team out?
Thew team made a statement - two actually. They said they didn't want a morning skate and they viscously attacked their fan base. And guess what, they backed those statements up. Whether the statements were stupid or not is less important than the fact that they acted together off the ice and then on the ice.
I'll take way more stupid, please |

It's really annoying when the media wants something to be an issue so badly and it just isn't. It's even worse when they attribute their invented outrage to the fans. "Salute-gate" is not a thing. Even if it was an intended snub it couldn't matter any less. - Jeffmt
actually I really hope that the media tries desperately to keep the "salute-gate" thing going....
because it clearly illustrates exactly how little they know about the game in general, the players and what their priorities are.

I don't actually give a flying Boimstruck if it was or not.
You want to talk about Tampa being right for the plucking?
Great.
But can we please all drop this sheer stupidity about how not raising their little hockey sticks last night is conclusive proof that Dion Phaneuf isn't a leader, Phil Kessel is selfish, and this team will never win?
FFS, it's just pathetic. - Atomic Wedgie
they wont win with this core
to think otherwise is simply foolish.. they can barely compete for a playoff spot wedgie.. this team is NOT GOOD |

In a perfect world, this would be the straw that broke the camel's back as far as reigning in the media's negativity.

and this is why i find it laughable that you say he can be our captain/leader. Hell of a talent and i'm a fan...but he's not a leader in ANY sense of the word. He's a pat kane, without the toews, keith, seabrook etc. - clark_griswold
little lesson for you....Dougie Gilmour. He wasn't a leader in Calgary or St. Louis. he was considered a mercurial, a misfit with great talent. Gritty yes, willing to go into tough areas to make things happen, but he wasn't the great leader before he came to Toronto. He stepped into the role here and embraced it. He did that in his late 20s. As i said, it was nice for him to START showing some balls, again if it was even his idea. That's what I want to see from this Leaf team, yes Dion has the C, but it takes more than a stupid letter to be a leader. It takes a guy willing to step up and say follow me. |

Are the fans really being disrespectful though? Going out and losing 9-2 when most people are paying over $200 a ticket is disrespectful, and then calling the fans classless when they express their dissatisfaction. Having said that, if rallying against the fans finally gets this team going, good for them. This team needs wins, not a lovey dovey relationship between players and fans. |

I have absolutely no problem with your statement above.
Some may agree or disagree (I happen to agree).
Just don't tell me that not waiving their little sticks in the air last night was indicative of the statement above, or that it actually meant something significant. |

Yes, there's a good chance they won't win the Cup this year and there's a chance that they just aren't good enough to even make the play-offs. This won't change either of those things.
But - they were playing like poop, their character was questioned, they didn't like it and responded.
I'll take it |
