I didnt know that, always wondered what counted as a hit, so what about when the a player passes the puck and then I rub him out a second after? I dont get a hit?

Your not supposed to, if they are calling it correctly it actually is a valuable stat, once again IF they are calling it correctly...

every other forward on Modo that Ive checked (7 or 8 forwards) all have hits, 13 - 18 each

I think the reason they don't count the "finishing" checks, is that it's difficult to gage on the fly how much impact those hits have...

They didn't have to fight too often to protect, their presence would intimidate guys to keep in check, and there are many interviews of many players that would say they do get a boost from staged fights, not all but some...

Watching Lucic go down like Bambi on ice wasn't pointless. It actually helps change what a lot of teams view of the Bruins and Lucic. I'm with you on keeping the numbers down, but there's hardly been a scrap this year for the Leafs, and I sometimes find the game is less entertaining. But the playoffs are (frank)ing awesome.
