do you consider the fight between McLaren and Gorges from a couple of seasons ago a "pointless fight".. or Orr k.o.'d Bourque and let Gionta go?

The reality is if your only going to play them 5 mins a night, not having fighters is pointless, and the guys the Leafs have that do fight once in a while (Dion, Clarkson), are terrible fighters who don't intimidate...

there is actually a fairly simple solution readily at hand...

i) call up Broll - who can skate, can play and hit -
ii) call up Devane - who can skate, can play a little bit and hit
iii) call up Brodie - who we already know works hard, can hit and fight a bit

play any one of them with Komarov and Santorelli or Komarov and Kadri.

let the shenanigans begin.

the key point.. you have to play them - in a situation where their role is clear - not to fight exclusively - but if necessary, finish checks like Komarov does and basically create space.

problem was Orr and McLaren aren't quick enough to keep up with the others.

this is the type of article you would hope the geniuses in the Toronto sports media could write... rather than lamenting over and over "not being saluted".

while I don't agree with every part of the article - its clearly well thought out and not entirely emotional opinion based.
