Dion would have gotten 7 on the open market.

There's always an exaggeration of Leaf players contracts. We see bad contracts moved a lot in the NHL.

This idea that Dion is worth about 4 million and is a second-pairing guy (So he's not a top 60- 80 NHL D-Man?) is silly.

To me the problem is Nonis and then Carlyle. I want to see a clear slate in the off-season.
Nonis signs Clarkson - f'n brutal, tries like hell to sign Bolland, again f'n brutal, Buys out Grabo our best centre at the time, f'n brutal, let's CMac walk for nothing, f'n brutal and on and on it goes.
In his last press conference when asked about changes he says "I don't want to do anything to hurt the long-term success of the club"
What f'n success and please define long-term. You've been here 6 years.
It starts with Nonis and then Carlyle - they have to go FFS!

And for those of you idiots who continue to defend Phil Kessel, take a look at what a real leader says in interviews (thanks to superblogger Dee Karl for the transcript):

After a slightly difficult second period, Nick Leddy spoke with Shannon Hogan. “With the lead we’re playing good defensively. We need to limit their chances. We’ve given up a few. We have to keep it simple get pucks in deep, keep it off their skilled guys.”

He know the Pens wouldn’t lay down for this one. “They’re going to make a big final push. Johsnon has been great for us so far and we’re going to need him here in the third.”

Dang nabbit, why can't we have a guy who will break down game strategy like that for us fans?

Quite frankly, I never know if the Leafs are taking it two shifts at a time.

Good morning, my Leafy friends.

I didn't mind the Grabovski move because he was actually the #3 centre at the time.

Mccarthur was another guy who's ice-time diminished once the team got more talent on the wing.

We defend Phil Kessel because he has the second most points of any NHl player the past 3 years.

What;'s so great about Nick Leddy? I'm supposed to care about those comments? I hear those all the time.

No, no, no.

He's fat, and he doesn't wave his stick in the air after games.

Quit blindly defending him.

Kessel is a dime a dozen.

Another missed playoff will spell the end for Nonis and possibly Carlyle. Shanahan will bring in his own guys. He has already started with Dubas, which is a step in the right direction.

The only comfort I get from Nonis saying "I don't want to do anything to hurt the long-term success of the club", is the fact he is not trading away our youth and future. This is at least a step in the right direction as we all know what has happened in the past. Ferguson has to be one of the worst GM's ever.

Taken from wiki:

Ferguson served as vice president and director of hockey operations for the St. Louis Blues, and before that he was assistant general manager for the club for five seasons. In that role he evaluated players at the professional and amateur level and negotiated player contracts.

Wait!! What??

I hate the way his unstoppable all-world scoring is done with a bad attitude. Plus, sometimes after he's done skating circles around people, he's breathing hard on the bench!

this is another thing, he hasn't given away young assets but we have a brutal drafting record. Outside of Nylander last year's draft class looks like a complete bust. Nonis also gave away 2 assets to move up and get Biggs, another f'n brutal move. Dave Morrisson chief scout has to go, we can do better and we have to!
So, Nonis go, Carlyle go and scouting complete overhaul, we have sweet eff all to lose!

Did you see him against Boston last week?

Two goals from opposite sides of the net - wired them top shelf - made it look easy.

So if he can score from anywhere on the ice whenever he wants to, why doesn't he do it every shift?

I'll tell you why: because he is lazy and selfish.

Because he'd rather sit back and think about all his money.

If they traded Kessel and let me play on the first line, I would give 100% every shift, and then maybe this crappy team would be above .500

I don't know about that, mang. Hard to tell about last year's draft class just yet. And the Leafs' collection of prospects from what I've read have collectively been doing pretty well at their respective levels. Sure they haven't hit that late round gem so far but I wouldn't say it's brutal.

He does have faults, minus player mostly because he's soft as Gardiner in his own end. He'd rather let a goal be scored than take a hit of any kind.

Not saying I wouldn't want him on my team but he's far from perfect.

would you strip this team of it's core and start over? Phaneuf, Kessel, Bozak etc.. etc.. Bozak makes 4mil like wtf?

Because it might have looked easy, but it's not. Some nights those shots go where you aim them....most nights you don't get as lucky. I don't think he's lazy, but soft.

Teams not as bad as you think, it's the D IMO.

Exactly, this is the point to remember. He's fat, he's lazy. Instead of working hard for his goals, he just shoots them into the net quickly, like he doesn't even want to work like Dougie or Wendel.

I'd rather have a defensive specialist who can chip in the odd goal, but does it with HEART, dammit.

It's a pretty easy pattern to see. Boston gets rid of Kessel, wins the Cup. Team USA puts Kessel on the team, loses two Olympics in a row. But people keep talking about these 'goals' and 'assists' he scores at a 'PPG' pace. What's that gonna do for the team, man?

He's a loser.

His sister is a loser.

When I was in minor atom in the Parkwoods Hockey League, my team (Prince Hotel) came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship game 4-3. So I know what winning is all about, and I know what kind of guys you need to win.

Kessel is not one of those guys.

Who even wants a silver medal? And his stoopid family has two of them - neither of which shine as brightly as my Parkwoods Hockey League trophy.

Well if we strip Nylander and not count last year we are left with Reilly, Percy, Leivo, Kadri and Schenn leaving us with 5/42 players from the draft classes of 2008-13 all under Nonis' watch. I know we turned Schenn into JVR but we also dumped three later picks to move up and get Schenn at #5. That is a brutal draft record to me
