To me it says a lot about the core of this team. I don't care about the salute but you don't pull something stupid like that, also shows me the collective lack of intelligence with this group.

This, I can agree with - El Capitan should have known better - known what it would stir up in the media. Or, he's a genius and wants to use the derision from the media/fanbase to fuel their fire.

Prepare for more poop. Nothing's going to change. They'll go on a streak and we'll be talking about who to trade Kadri/Bozak for so Holland can move up in the lineup, then they'll lose a few ugly and sarcastic #culturechange all over the place and calls for Randy's head - repeat until they get or just miss out on the 8 slot.
- 1979AD

but will we still watch? will people still buy tickets if they aren't saluting at the end of the game?!? enquiring minds want to know!

You know what it says to me about the core? That they actually do care what we think. That they actually have some pride in themselves. Misdirected or not, if Phil is truly behind it, then finally he's showing some leadership. Misguided or not, finally he's showing some balls.

the only way to shut up the media in places like TO is winning. that's it.
think back to the lockout season. how much poop did the media stir up? not much. look at Montreal. media has been pretty tame last 2-3 years because the team has won pretty consistently.

I am guessing this was El Captain's idea. Give him credit. He figured out a way to give the fans the finger without lifting a finger. I didn't think he was that smart.

No chance. Every time I've paid for tickets the primary motivation was the stick salute at the end. Makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

How do you know it was Dion who decided it? I think it's Phil personally.

I don't know it was Dion's idea, but as Captain he could let it go or he could refuse to let it happen.

Who cares? They just poured gasoline on a fire. Did they not think people would notice. It was a childish move even if you like the salute or not. It's the optics of it.
- LeafMan

I don't think so. After those two loses many fans and most of the media turned into complete bumholes (me included). I actually commend the team for trying to send the message that they weren't happy with being pissed on.

And wouldn't it be nice if most of the usual media douche's who CONSTANTLY slam the Leafs and are NEVER held accountable, see limited access to the team. Anytime there is something positive to report half of the those (frank)s can't be found.

Because, he's the only guy on the Leafs I've ever seen tell Dion publicly to (frank) off. He's all shy and clumsy in front of the cameras, but away from the spotlight, he's the one with the swagger and the true alpha.

Maybe, just maybe, it's the players saying FU to the management? They don't get much support except from Nonis, who's opinion is jaded because he assembled the team.

No effing kidding.

Dominating win last night against the #2 team in the league.

Goalie played well.

Phaneuf played well.

JVR had two beauties.

Our worst contract got the team going with a goal early.

OHMYEFFINGGODTHEYDIDN'TWAIVETHEIRSTICKSINTHEAIRATTHEENDOFTHEGAME!!!!!

Every idiot residing in Leafs Nation needs to go have a good hard look in the mirror right now.

Want to know why absolutely nobody wants to play here?

Because lazy idiot media in this town create tempests in teapots for you to react to.

And lo and behold, you always do.

It's not Leafs Nation.

It's Trained Seal Nation.

Let's just drop the fake outrage.

Nobody actually cares.

i wish i had your optimism. Do the fans not have a right to be pissed off after 50 years of absolute garbage? Im 33 years old. Die hard fan my whole life but i've completely had it. THis team is so far away from a cup and that is simply inexcusable considering they have been the worst franchise in the nhl for over 10 years. Just complete crap and the most expensive crap in the league to boot.

thank god i get free tickets to these games...i'd never pay to see them again

I think if a team mails it in on the ice and gets embarrassed the home team fans have a right to voice their displeasure. Have fans ever thrown sweaters when they've lost a hard fought game?
