But the Leafs have never had cap problems, and there's simply nobody out there that you'd want to give $7 million to.

After the money bath gets boring, there are so many options:

a) save it for Stamkos
b) send Babcock's wife some $1000 pumps and Hermes bags (from: your friends in TO )
c) buy lots of the sushi eating chardonnay sipping platinum seats back and hand them out to the unwashed masses
d) save it for a UFA that's worth it
e) use it to take a true #1 C or D from a team in a trade
f) use it to sign better than what we have in certain areas UFA's to 1 year contracts until someone worth a long term becomes available
g) shave in between Glucky's eyes

Also, you're forgetting about the pick+prospect that could turn into useful pieces.
