I see mistake after mistake that has nothing to do with his partner, guys blowing by him, so it's his partners fault, standing around watching the puck go in the net, his partners fault, so on and so on. - LeafMan
He's lazy, entitled and rarely willing to engage physically in front of the net... I don't care if this team needs to be blown up but they must find a way to move Phaneuf. |

I think you're blowing this up more than the Toronto media, which is hard to do... - Mr_Smokey
He he he...
No, actually I think the action, or non-action, itself was quite small but the reaction is fascinating to watch. There is certainly some public relations building needed or at least some level justification or explanation or else the media --- who will soon be seen as 100% on the fan's side and just use their bully pulpit to rile fans --- will continue to encourage bad blood and a "Us (Media and Fans) versus them (Players and Organization)" environment... and the public will eat it up. Not because they are simple or easily manipulated but they need something to focus their anger on.
Anyways, it certainly sells papers.
For me, the lack of a salute was pretty much a non-starter but if it comes out that it was planned... then I can see legitimate anger. |

I think part of that is because he trying to do to much and starts concentrating on making sure he's there to cover for others and the other part is because he's slow. I never understood why they took an offensive guy and are trying to use him as a defensive first guy. Be like using Kessel in a shutdown role and would make no sense. |

Gardiner-Franson as our top pairing
poop we would be too bad to even get McDavid they would give away our 1st just because we would be twice as bad as Buffalo |

That's a slippery-slope.
One could, very easily, remove the word "media" and replace it with "players" and have an equally valid argument.
Just goes to show the level of trust and frustration. I mean, Kessel started this by insinuating that the current protest of throwing a jersey on the ice was this HUGE thing against the entire history of the Leafs, God and Country.
But I fear there will be a reckoning soon. Either firings or player trades made out of player demands or fan revolt. - Beatle_john
As a Canuck fan you should realize that fans revolt/riot/run amuck when their team loses, not when they fail to wave their sticks in the air after a game. |

Look at the guys he's played with though and where they are now. I'm not a big phaneuf fan but he's had utter crap for partners and made them look decent. Franson is looking decent this year on top pair but last year could barely do anything on the bottom pair. - Yeti1181
Amen.
It's pretty simple: name a single defence partner Dion Phaneuf has had with the Leafs who gets a regular shift in the NHL today.
There isn't one.
Pretty amazing, don't you think? |

100%
He isn't 'bad'. But He's not going to get this team to the promise land.
I'm not in the dressing room. But since 90% of the league hates him fro some reason I assume he is not captain material.
Someone on CLB said 'Everyone hates you' To which Dion replied ' I've heard that one before' |

let the haters hate.
they wont change their opinion.
he aint the best D man, he aint the best captain
but hes a good d man - a lot better than avg
Lou was super high on Frattin - look where he is.
everyone sees things differently, but im with you, dion has played with #3-4 D men at best his entire career in TO, gunnersson being the only one who is 100% NHL caliber. Koskta (waived), Aulie (lol), Holzer (LOL), need i go on?
no biggy hes here for 7 years so they have a lot of hate left ahead - Lucas Neilson
I understand why people dislike but I also don't get why the use him as they do, basically setting him up to fail. |

Change the coach at the same time as moving Phaneuf.... a journeyman bottom pairing D would fill in just fine. |

Yes. It is because of those guys.
Everyone time dion fumbles a puck. gives up on a play . gets beat to the net by smaller players. Its because of those guys. |
