I wish we could go into Hextall's office and female dog him about his effort as the Flyers GM. (Just like he went into the locker room the other night)

I swear that Hartnell/Umberger trade will probably cost them 10 games this year.

- Jack-Meoff

The point of the trade was more for the future, not the present. And unless Hextall is a psychic, he couldn't have predicted Umberger would be THIS bad. There was no reason to believe he wouldn't be a serviceable NHLer.

As much as G is shooting these days, it may not matter.

Couple of thoughts....was standing with Don Seleski when winner went in.....was bang on when he said it's a simple b&g play for Macdonald ....you have to make that play at that time in the game.....I won't get into his comments on Luke Schenn, although he said he is a nice kid.....impressed with Laughton, faster then I thought.....Giroux and Vorecek are world class. Well, off to Allentown, how about those Phantoms.....

nothing compares to the JVR for Schenn trade
- vejim

Oh I totally agree, I cant decide between that trade or the Sharp trade as being the worst trade in recent years.....maybe my order would be this-

Worst recent trades-

1- JVR for Schenn
2- Sharp for Ellison
3 - Hartnell for Umberger
4 - Gagne for Walker
5 - 1st for Eminger
6- Scotty Upshall for Carcillo

God we are terrible at trading

Let's have a larger sample size before coming to that conclusion. Get Del Zotto back and have every defenseman in the right role. Coburn played a solid game last night.
- MJL

I think the sample size is sufficeint. My reasoning is because I don't feel this team is a cup contender and I don't think Coburn makes this team so much better I hestiate to move him. in the past maybe not. But at this time and with this team i see him as a valuble trade chip.

If the point of the trade was for the future, not the present, then you trade Hartnell for picks and prospects. Not for a player whose team is planning on buying his contract out and makes almost the same as Hartnell.

It's likely that no team wanted Hartnell's contract without the Flyers absorbing some salary in return. Hence Umberger.

Right about now, I'm guessing Columbus would love to have Jake Voracek back and LA probably would love to ditch their 5 million dollar 4th line center.

You know two teams have to be involved to make a trade. Columbus probably waassn't going to give up prospects and picks so the next best was shaving years off the deal for future signings. Couturier, Schenn will need to get some money once Umberger's contract is done

What's the most likely scenario today:

1. Berube fired
2. Player(s) traded
3. Nothing

Best recent trades:

1. 1st rounder (Jonathan Blum) for Timonen and Hartnell
2. Carter for Voracek, a 1st (Couturier), 3rd (Cousins)
3. Leighton and a 3rd for Mason
4. Zhitnik for Coburn
5. Richards for Simmonds, Schenn and a 2nd

Not me. Bob played great that one short season. Mason has been a better Flyer than Bob ever was... also Bob has a much better defense in front of him, also when he played behind Pronger in Philly.
