I never said Emery is equal to Mason bonehead!
- SuperSchennBros

Then why the hell are you arguing with me on Mason vs. Emery? Its ridiculous.

That's definitely a positive thing going for him. I just wonder how much say Hexy has in it

As Bill says, look at the minutes.
Schultz played 21:40
Amac 16
L Schenn 15:40

- Marc D

Schultz has been flagging as of late, though... even before MDZ went down, you could tell he was starting to come back to earth a bit.

You are arguing with me nut case!

Mason was very good Wednesday. The team was in the game because of Mason. He is our starter. No argument. However, am I satisfied? Do I feel like he's stolen us a game yet or playing up to par with the best goalies in the league? No. Which has very little to do with Emery, outside of I don't feel like he's vastly outplayed Emery, which is only the real comparison we have. You'd think I was begging for Mason to be traded.

New article for the Flyers' Alumni official site -- Flyers Showed Foresight Drafting Forsberg in 1991 (yes, I discuss the trade to Quebec in depth as well as his belated arrival to Philly as a UFA in 2005).

He probably wasn't expecting to play as much as has been. He has played well in his own end and it would be a shame to see a +4 guy scratched .

My feeling coming into this season was I wouldn't be suprised if the Flyers snuck into the playoffs but also wouldn't shock me if they missed them. After listening to Hextall before the season his plan was to let prospects grow and he would evaluate the team moving forward. he also said it might be a step back before moving forward.

So now we are 17 games in. We have dealt with some injuries and slumps. To me nothing has changed. This team is still flawed and in need of some shaping. I watch a guy like Coburn. yes he does some things well but is he really that valuable to keep or would he be better served moved at the TDL for a high pick and prospects? Is Read truely so valuable that Raffl can't replace him?

Sorry for the long post and your probably wondering what I am trying to say. I am saying no matter if this team is close to making the playoffs I still think you have to make unpopular deals. If Coburn gets you a top procpect and 1st rounder you do it. If Read gets you high picks you do it. I think a mistake would be keeping these players because you hope to sneak into the playoffs. i think that would just put us back a step. With the D prospects getting closer it is time to start shaping the roster so we can be a top team. Not just a team who sneaks in.

I'm becoming less and less of a Berube fan but in his defense, the revolving door that has defensemen coming in an out of the line up isn't making things easy.

I agree. It's really deciding between two fairly weak defenseman though. It's a bad problem to have.

Mason is the #1 goalie and he has played 11 games while Emery has played 8. The team is struggling, Mason played spectacular the night before, we need a win....to me it's simple... Go with your #1 guy. If Mason had been bad the night before and was playing poorly it would be different. He deserves more games, this team needs all the help it can get and using your #1 goalie on a more regular basis would help
- 3flyerkids

Recent history shows going with Mason back to back doesn't have a very good outcome. Even Mason needs a night off.

Usually a tell tale sign of someone losing a debate/argument is when the personal insults ensue. You also backed off your stance of Emery having played better than Mason so far this season based on wins fairly quick. No need to get bent out of shape kid. Nobody is insulting you....

I have a question.

I believe we're 17 games in and so far I'd say outside of Voracek and the rest of the top line our goalies have been our best players nightly. I wasn't thrilled with Emery against Montreal Saturday but prior to that, I thought he had the better start of the two goalies. Many would disagree but I feel Emery's performance in thec first Montreal game I feel has been the best outing to this point this season.

So I ask, am I crazy to believe as good as Mason has been, to say he hasn't been hands down leaps and bounds better then Emery. Mason is the better goalie but I wouldn't say there hasn't been no completion here. In fact I'd say they've both had it equally rough because of the guys in front of them.

- SuperSchennBros

I'd say that Emery, as a backup, most nights will give the team a chance to win. But Mason is capable of that, and far more. He can win a game for you, and keep you in a game that you shouldn't be in. Flyers had no business being even close in that Rangers game. Emery can do that on occasion, but not as much as Mason can.

So what! Umberger plays the PP and gets like 17 min a night. Does not mean he has deserved it.

But we're talking only part of the game when he's making solid plays. The other part he's slower and gives up some bad positioning. I'm not saying he's a sloth by any means... all I'm saying is that I believe he's peaked and is on his slow decline downwards.
- WarriorHockey21

I don't really see that...the only concern I have with Grossmann is when he's playing hurt and his game suffers (or not playing while hurt). I thnk his gap control and positioning aren't bad...often better than our other DD men, Coby and L Schenn imo.

What are the skills and value that you think Read brings to the lineup? And do you think having both Read and Raffl in the lineup is better then just having Raffl?
