Read is a nice player, but calling him untouchable is just ridiculous. The only true untouchables are Giroux and Voracek, though Mason, Couturier, B Schenn and Simmonds are close. The only other untouchables in the organization currently, IMO, are top prospects and 1st and 2nd round draft picks
- BiggE

You obviously can't trade the whole team (except G, Jake and Mason). To me, you have to look at which pieces fit together best, the value you'd get from each player in return, and the timelines of the prospects.

Wouldn't trade - G, Jake & Mason
Very unlikely to trade - Simmonds (skill set is perfect for this team)
Look to keep: Read (more unique skill set for this team) and Raffl (return wouldn't justify)
Wait and See: B Schenn - want to give him more time, but might consider for a highly-skilled LW
Would trade one of: Laughton or Couturier (again, somewhat redundant skill set; could be used to acquire LW or Dman)
Would trade for ANYTHING: Vinnie and Umberger

Would trade one of: Streit or preferably A Mac if the return justified it
Would trade this year for pick/prospect: Grossmann
Would keep: L Schenn (can't bring all the rookies up at once; needs right partner)
Would trade NEXT year: Coburn (I think they need to keep him to phase in rookies)
Would resign: MDZ (longer term), Schultz (short term) and maybe CC as 7th guy;

He needs a better number the 49 though. Something looks off when I see it out there.
- J35Bacher

Wonder why he didn't stick with 21 like he wore in his 5 game stint back in 2012-13. I think the last forward to wear #49 was Brian Savage.

Just so you guys are aware the less talented panthers won last night and are now 3 points ahead of you guys with 1 less game played
- rangerdanger94

And the mighty "we went to the finals last year, fear us!" Rangers are only 1 point ahead of the Panthers with 2 more games played.

You suck at trolling.

I agree in general with what you have said, but watching the game last night makes me think Laughton and Couturier may not have the exact same skill set. Laughton is MUCH faster than Couturier and at least last night shows more offensive upside, while Couturier is a better defender. I'd like to see what Laughton brings over a chunk of the season before I agree with the idea that Laughton and Couturier bring the same skill set.

No way I trade either Couts or Laughton unless the return is so far tilted in the Flyers favor you have to wonder if the other GM has literally lost his mind or is on Comcast's payroll.

G, Couts and Laughton down the middle for the foreseeable future is fine by me.

On the other hand, I like Bellemare being #78. He's owning it.

Laughton looks like a #19 to me.

I wonder if they chose not to offer it to him as kind of a "you haven't made it yet" sort of thing?

Couturier is a bigger guy, too. That helps him in many ways. I think it's a mistake to think you can simply change out Couturier for Laughton, role-wise.

Whats the consensus on the first wild goal? To me I put it on VDV. He should have read umberger following the puck at the top of the umbrella. That's not uncommon for a pker to do that.

Sorry catching this game on Dvr

Add Bellemare. If that is the player that Laughton is going to be, that give the Flyers another quick forward who is strong on the puck, good on the forecheck, and is capable of pressuring the puck all over the ice. That's what the game is about these days. Taking away time and space for the opposition, and getting the puck back when you don't have it.

Anyone following the new mess in Toronto, with the players skipping out on the stick salute? Those players should have just left well enough alone.

Are the Flyers the only team that doesn't do the stick salute? Frankly, I'm fine with them not doing it.

In my view, Umberger is supposed to follow and pressure the puck, and Vandevelde was supposed to read off of that, and rotate to the weak side.

There is a famous cocktail served in bars around the world called corpse reviver #2. It contains gin, lemon juice, and absinthe. It is a hair of the dog type remedy for hangovers. The Flyers now have their own version of the corpse reviver, except it's #49.

- Marc D

49 brings back fond mems of former Flyer legend Brian Savage, ca. 2005-2006.

Just some questions for debate.

Per Dreger: “Quietly, the criticism on Cheveldayoff is that he doesn’t make trades. He doesn’t make trades: player-for-player type of trades. And Winnipeg is a team that definitely needs some help on the back end. I’m sure they would like to add a bit more jam and a bit more upside to their top nine forwards. Most NHL teams are looking for that type of player.

If out of it at the deadline, would you trade Coburn and Read to WPG for 1st roudner, rights to Alex burmistrov and Nikolja Ehlers?

Also Alex Semin has been a healthy scratch in Carolina. WOuld you trade Vinny to Carolina for Semin straight up?

To the person who PM'd me: Please stop wasting my time and yours, I have no interest in playing your game of endless argument. Please don't message me again, say what you have to say publicly or not at all. At the end of the day, I truly don't give a rat's behind what you think anyway.

GM everyone. When G tied it up last night it was awesome! But that last goal was a heartbreaker. Even I wanted to jump through the TV and throttle Schenn and I'm usually just verbaly abusive...

On a more serious note I like that they had more jump last night. And like everyone else I felt Laughton deserved to stay. Hell, anything that pumps Vinny's tires is worth it. And I can merely shake my head at Umberger... He needs to get moving.
Yep I think Hextall is listening to offers for Coburn, Grossmann, L Schenn, and Read.
I really, really like Read, but he hasn't been as effective as he was in past seasons. A lot of his normal jump seems gone and players like Bellemare have filled into the void he left.

- FlyersGrace

after they scored that horrid goal my mind went on its own to compile a list of nhl teams that would have female dog-slapped the other team for the rest of the game after playing hard and FINALLY getting the tying goal w/ under 5 min to play......flyers have really become good at figuring out how to make it hard on themselves

Alex Semin makes more money than Vinny Lecavalier.

I wouldn't necessarily pursue that deal, but if one were to pursue that deal, I'd expect Carolina to eat salary or send something else our way to make up for the extra salary hit.

The Flyers should just start treating RJ like Milton from Office Space.
