I'll bring this over from the last thread cause it ties into the subject:
Hopefully Duper can be back next season but you have to be prepared for anything.
I've said it many times now but since cap is less of an issue, I think we can hang onto Martin for the year. We should move a combination of guys like Dumo, Samuelsson, Scuderi, Spaling, draft picks for a good young winger.
Prepare yourself for a huge list but here is who I would be looking at:
Jurco, Rattie, Yakupov, Perron, Connolly, Nino, M. Foligno, Forsberg, Boedker, Kuznetsov, Kane, ROR, Tatar, Palmeiri, Ritchie
Then guys like Morin, Mcginn, Buff, Bickell, Hemsky, etc as secondary/depth/specific need options |

Just trying to be somewhat realistic, sorry. It takes assets to get assets. Folks can believe that our worst D prospects will bring back a quality winger, but that's just not the case.
I have no interest in a young winger. It's all about the playoffs, and Jurco, Nail, etc. do nothing to help the team in the playoffs. - hardnosed
If I'm giving up a stud D prospect and a roster player, I don't want to take back an overpaid player on the downswing of his career. He was great in his time with the Penguins, but that contract is the type of contract that got Shero fired. |

Jokinen is signed too long for too much and is soft. - usethe1-2-2
He's not soft, he's skilled. And I view his contract as a good thing, as it solidifies the top 9 moving forward. |

And wtf when is megna coming up.. - nh4442
I don't think Dupuis was officially placed on LTIR yet, has he? I would assume that needs to happen b4 Megna gets a call up. |

I don't think he's on the downswing at 31. and the contract is fine.
That's about all they're going to be able to get. It's either that or other teams' unwanted and unproven prospects, which do nothing to help bring back a Cup. |

One source, not saying this is a credible source, just noting that I read a week or so back that Loktionov would already be a Penguin if we had the cap space. Well, now we have the cap space.. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I will take it with a grain of salt, but thanks for the response. Guess we'll see. |

I like your list of younger guys. I was hoping Forsberg would be in the Neal trade, even if it meant us throwing in a pick. I doubt he gets moved now. I've always been a big fan of ROR. I feel like he's a Hossa (lite) type player. But yeah, I would welcome anyone of those younger guys to the Pens, so long as the deal is right. Mostly though, I like Kane, ROR, Connolly and Nino, the guys that would probably cost more haha. |

I'm in the opposing POV. I have 0 interest in an old guy with a high cap that we will over pay to be here for 2-3 months that costs the Pens crucial assets. I'd rather see prospects/picks/Martin go to someone young that will be around for a while. I'm over the Guerin/Iginla deals.
Hopefully Dupes comes back next year and we have someone younger to step up and take on a larger role.
Question: Is Vokoun still playing? I thought the clot and his absence essentially ended his career? |

Ah. Good point... wonder why they haven't done it yet. Figured the faster they do it the more money they save |

It's 4 mill? That's a bit much for a streaky player like Jussi. He is not too different from Hemsky. |

Meh, I wouldn't worry too much. Dupuis means a lot to the team and they havent completed all the testing yet. Not saying he has been misdiagnosed and will be back or anything, just maybe showing a little respect before erasing him off the books. Its only been one day, I'm sure Botterill knows what he's doing. |

Juicy has three more seasons on his deal, so he wouldn't be a rental.
And a lot of players on that young unproven useless failed bust lists are pending RFA's, so there's no guarantee that they'd be in town long term either.
Point is, Geno and Juicy worked. I'd rather give up assets for something that I know is going to work than take blind stabs in the dark. |

Let me guess you are a Yankee fan too. just like their fans, all the best must filter to you and the rest of the league be damned. Just for example why in the name of all things holy would you even think that you have a shot at Forsberg?
Oh and heres one to Pasquel get well soon, hope I get to root against you soon! |

Have some balls my man. Neal was a blind stab in the dark. Jussi was a blind stab in the dark. Malkin isnt the easiest guy to play with but he's so elite that I'm sure most players with true top 6 talent would be fine on his wing with a full season to adjust. I'd rather go for the homerun on a younger guy stuck in a logjam of forwards who will cost 1/4th as much as Jussi and could stick around for 5-8 years. |
