Umberger and Lacavalier I have no hope for.
If they are forced to play them, minimize their time and roles.

Right now Coburn, Read, and to a lesser degree Simmonds and Couts are slumping badly. If those 4 guys can play to a level they are capable of they will be a much better team.

- Marc D

Im reallllly disappointed with Couts so far this year. I had hoped this would be a big year for him. He showed positive signs in the pre-season and a few games here and there, but he needs to take his play to another level, regardless of where he starts on the ice.

Very true. Holmgren failed to bring in pieces to fit what lava was doing. I remember clamoring for Oduya at the trade deadline. Flyers opted for grossman. That's when I knew they weren't in sync

I still can't get over how poorly they handled it. Nothing manifested in those three games that wasn't glaringly apparent the previous season. So if they had Lavi on such a short leash that they'd fire him comically early into the season, why not just (frank)ing fire him when you can tap the whole coaching market? Why wait until you only have one option? Why waste a whole training camp a new coach could've used to get situated?
- BulliesPhan87

... and why turn around and hand the keys of the kingdom to Berube right away, a guy with only 1 AHL season as HC under his belt?

I dunno.

I think Vinny could work with Washington. they have solid wingers for him to play with.

I was watching Read a lot last night. He just looks slow. Rangers were catching up to him from behind like he was standing still. He is supposed to be a faster skater. Something is obviously wrong with him. I least I hope so.

Last game he was coming in the slot wide open and couldn't handle a pretty good pass on his stick for a scoring chance. Last year he was catching that pass and putting a good shot on net. Something is wrong with him.

Couturier looks overwhelmed as a result. He is getting no help and it is hurting his game at both ends of the ice.

Aww, lookie here. Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy!

That movie is amazing!!!! If Umberger is going to remain in the lineup, can he at least wear a Tricky Richard mask!!??

I agree on coots. He is more of a victim of reads play and whatever garbage is on the other side. He should get a pass

It was indecision, plain and simple. First they decided to give the coach a chance, and swiftly changed their minds at the first sign of trouble. Who's next in line when they can Berube? Cote?

I don't know if Read is injured but he has not looked good at all, he looks slower and indecisive. Can Couturier handle the role of a 2nd line Centre? I hope so but he has been slumping badly and is not really creating any chances

You clearly overvalue your defenseman. You forgot to mention Voracek BTW. Thats a pretty big omission.
- GOA88

How so? DeHaan was superb last season and has been this. I didn't even mention Boychuck or Leddy who have been awesome. Vis has been an absolute force since his return and Hamonic is legit. Hickey is our #6 and he is a far better defenseman than AMAC who is your number 1. How is that overvaluing anyone?
You are right I forgot about Voracek though not on purpose. Guy looks awesome but I'd take Tavares, Okposo, Nelson over your top 3 but there's a legit debate there I believe.

I'd rather he and Vinny were tied up like the rent-a-cops at the playground.

That is where I am. When Couturier has wingers that can play like the time him and schenn were together they were a solid line. Right now he is getting leftovers. With read not doing much and another winger that isn't much he already faces the top lines. Only so much he can do.

I think Hexys tirade has everything to do with tonight's events. He knows this is a team going nowhere. But he's got renberg flying in from Sweden and its overrall going to be a night to remember for the flyer family. He's hoping the tirade will do something for at least one night

I think you missed Voracek in that mix.

I think the Islanders have more talent than the Flyers this year. The trades for Leddy and Boychuk tip the scales for me.

I think the Flyers have a better top line particularly with the emergence of Voracek.
Couts and Read are horrible this season. If they play to their potential I like the Couts-Read-Simmonds line every bit as much as any Islanders second line, but the third line is Philly kills them (LeCavalier and Umberger). The Hartnell trade is horrible now, but in a couple of years, they won't have Umberger's contract to deal with and Columbus will still a some of Hartnell's contract, so I'm OK with how horrible the front end of this trade is.

I think the Islanders have the clear edge on defense. I don't think it's even close. The Flyers have significant talent in the minors who could, I emphasize could, change the level of talent significantly, but that is probably 2 seasons out.

I think the goalies are pretty similar between the two teams.

- ManCity

I did. Guy looks great. He was the only player save for Mason who looked good last night IMO.

Interesting thing: Back in 2006-07 (as much as I want to forget it), at one game the Flyers' gave out a flag celebrating "40 Years of Flyers Hockey" with the Flyers logo on it but instead of the normal coloring inside, it was a bunch of pictures. Clarke, Barber, Parent, Recchi, Hextall, Howe, LeClair, Desjardins, Forsberg, Gagne, Roenick, etc. were featured on it but one player was conspicuously absent: Eric Lindros.

The player that has arguably had the biggest impact on Flyers' history not named Bobby Clarke was not seen anywhere on an item celebrating the history of the organization. It goes to show how wide the schism was between Lindros and Snider/Clarke/Flyers. Thank god things are changing.

I was thrilled to see Lindros at the Winter Classic Alumni game back in 2012. Big E was Flyers hockey for me and the first real icon I had in the game, seeing as I was a year old when he made his NHL debut. Now, the Flyers are inducting him into their HoF which is only right. Next step is to retire his jersey which I believe now will happen sooner rather than later, which is something I couldn't say a few years back. Eventually, people will forget the media circus and all that drama surrounding him and view his play and he'll be enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame too.

Like I said... your overvalue your defense. Im not saying the Flyers is better but the Isles dont have a good defense either.
Giroux>Tavares
Voracek>Okposo
Simmonds> Okposo, Nelson, Grabovski, Grabner, et. etc. etc.
Its not even a worth debating really....
