Yeah. Not to pile on but it is. That was the worst defense last night I've seen since us last year. . Who is going to help that? MacDonald when he gets back? Nope

Are there any fans of the movie Men at Work here? The movie with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez? Does anyone remember the name of the character of the guy they found dead on their garbage route?

Half your forward lineup is vinny, akeson, rinaldo, VDV, laughton, and umberger. Your defense is the thinnest and arguably worst in the league. Florida is definitely more talented.

Then why do you guys only have one win more than us?

Looking at the ice time from last night, I am convinced Berube has no idea what he is doing at this point.

There comes a point where players who are playing like crap and giving no effort need to have their ice time cut, and players who playing hard and giving effort need to get more.

I DON'T CARE what the score was, Laughton, PEB and Rinaldo were skating hard and trying to do something while VLC and Umberger were going through the motions...Couturier, and surprisingly Read (because he is supposed to be fast)looked like they were skating in sand.

You, as a coach, need to send a message that if you don't work hard, you wont see the ice...PERIOD. Bellamare getting less than 10 minutes is a travesty.

Our defense is what it is. This is on the forwards just as it has always been. Bunch of over rated pansies.

Berube isn't long for this team if they don't pick it up substantially over the next few games. You heard it here first.

Yup. A complete cluste(frank) assembled by Homey Da Clown, or should I say Mr. President.

What makes you think any of this? What are you basing this on? What exactly makes Philadelphia a playoff team and the Islanders not?
- Cptmjl

Well as a Flyers fan I know this team is capable of more than its poor start just like last season. The Islanders on the otherhand... while they have improved slightly on paper I dont think they can keep this pace up all season. Thats my unbiased opinion. I dont hate the Islanders or anything.... I have'nt really ever had a reason to.

Then why single out the players that "worked hard"?

He has had no problem singling out guys like Gus or Akeson. OHHHH thats right.. Hamburglar and vinny testaverde

- jak521

I'm not discussing who the coach is singling out in that post. I'm discussing fans singling out individual players when the team as a whole sucked!

It's frustrating that 2 of our top 9 players are essentially dead weight right now in Lecavalier and Umberger, and our 4th line should really not be used outside of the 4th line, leaving the team with virtually 7 forwards in the top 9. I think Vinny and Umberger can turn it around to an extent, because this is just terrible. There has to be SOMETHING left in the tank. Right...?

I didn't say that Hextall or Berube should have singled any particular player out after last night's debacle, BUT they should limiting their ice time based on performance. In the case of Vinny and Umberger, their arses should be stapled to the press box or the bench!

Step 1 - Skate hard
Step 2 - Compete
Step 3 - Win Stanley Cup

- Streit2ThePoint

This is what annoys me about Berube's status as coach.

He has repeatedly said they aren't skating hard enough. OK so either he is a horrible coach in conveying this to his players, or the players are simply ignoring him, or the players aren't capable of doing this.

Option #1- Fire the coach (Not saying he is the only problem)
Option #2- Trade/release the players and/or fire the coach
Option #3- Trade/release the players

I don't want to hear the company line anymore about the players needed "to skate harder." Do something about it! We all can see it, there has been plenty of time to correct this. It's time to do something about it, because talking about it isn't producing results.

One other thing. Last night Umberger, for the second time I can recall in the last few weeks, ices the puck because he refused to skate hard to get the red line before he dumped the puck in. It wasn't that he couldn't have gained the red line if he gave the effort, instead he just simply didn't put the complete effort in to make it happen. This irritates me far worse than his offensive ineptness.

I think it might be time to sit either or both of Lecavalier or Umberger. Moving people around in the lines hasn't done much. If neither show signs of life tonight, one of them has to sit.

The team is thin, talent-wise, as it is, but those two are just passengers at this point.

Braydon Coburn's game is awful right now.

Exactly
Who gives a damn if no one claims Umberger? At least he'd be off our roster and 900k of cap space be up. Bring Jones back up, sit VLC and drop Read to the 4th line until he gets his head out of his ass. My lines for tomorrow would be:

Schenn-G-Jake
Bellemare-Couturier-Simmonds
Rinaldo-Laughton-Akeson
Jones-VDV-Read

If I never see Umberger or VLC in a Flyers uniform again, it will be too soon!

- BiggE

As long as you want to ignore that Jones isn't better them Umberger is. Neither is Akeson unfortunately. That's just the way it is.

You must be young as far as never having a reason to hate the Islanders. You're entitled to your opinion but I have a hard time envisioning it. Depth up front and the back end. Already withstood a rash of injuries to our top 6 and top 4 on our back end. Anything can happen in hockey but it's hard to understand why you'd think the Flyers would be a playoff team over the Islanders? On paper and otherwise there's not really a debate there.
What makes you think they're more capable with that defense? Mason looked incredible yesterday and he could steal you guys some games but eventually defense will lose them for you I don't care who you have in net.

Ok I misunderstood you..

Either way.. the team could not execute simple passes, they looked like the puck was a tennis ball the way they handled it. Stuff like that happens from time to time with good team. It happens more frequently with not so good teams.

What pisses people off about Umberger and Vinny is that the two of them dont execute, they dont win battles, and they look as though they are just trying to make it through their shift. There were several times last night where Umberger was COOKED while standing still in the d-zone. Rags were skating through to the net and he was literally seconds late in reacting. Terrible effort. The guy has been terrible from the pre-season on out. Vinny just isnt a capable top 6 forward any more.. and his style of play is really not ideal in a bottom 6 role IMO.

That one was a joke . I acknowledged last year that we would suck with the defense we had last year before the season started. A lot disagreed with me. Same situation with you guys. When Timmo went down and AMAC got pushed up the depth chart it was telling unfortunately for the Flyers.

There aren't many viable options for the top 9. Lecavalier has produced a bit and Umberger is a LW on a team that's weak at LW. That being said, I'm not sure that Rinaldo would be worse on the third line than Umberger. That's far from ideal but Umberger hasn't played like an NHLer let alone a top 9 forward.

I'm against calling up guys like Cousins, Leier, etc. to be thrown to the Sharks. These guys aren't projected to be more than 4th line players in the near future anyway. All of this is part of why I consider this season a transitional one and I have the mentally of "what happens this season happened this season"

You and I will never agree on this topic, thats for sure. But I am willing to bet this is the same thing you were thinking/saying last year at this time until the Flyers found their game and had the 3rd best record in the league from Dec. until the end of the season. So we wont know until the end right?? Its still very early.....

Berube cant keep saying the team has to compete more and skate harder, and then give the players who were competing and skating the least ice time in the game. His word has no weight at this point.

Its obvious there is no pride in some of these players. SO you have to hit them where it hurts, with playing time. It MAY hurt you on the scoreboard, but how is that any different than it already is?

Screw it, give PEB and Rinaldo 20 minutes, they deserve it if working hard is what you are looking for.

Berube cant continue to preach what he preaches and then continue to play everyone the same anyway. How can any player take him seriously?

Jack Johnson is bankrupt somehow.

http://bluejacketsxtra.di...er&utm_source=twitterfeed

Johnson has earned more than $18 million during his nine-year NHL career, not including the $5 million he will be paid this season by the Blue Jackets.

Almost all of the money is gone, and some of his future earnings have already been promised — which is why Johnson, surrounded by a new team of financial advisers and an attorney, signed his financial surrender.
