He is strapped with a struggling Read and whoever else on his line isn't paying well either. When Schenn was with him that line was playing well. I want to get him better wingers. Also if Laughton can be a 3rd line center and take some defensive work off him that would help as well. The lineup as a whole just doesn't mesh well.

Like in his rookie year, except for when Schenn was on his line, he has been saddled with underachieving players from game one and this is dragging his game down.

He has a coach telling him he needs to increase his offensive game while giving him defensive zone starts against the other teams top lines 90% of the time.

I can imagine the conversation:

Coots: Coach, Im trying to get scoring opportunities but with these linemates and defensive starts its tough going.
Berube:work harder
Coots:Im working my tail off with inferior line mates against superior competition all while they are getting starts in my zone.
Berube:Work harder
Coots:Ok, then give me some offensive zone draws.
Berube:NOPE! you dont work hard enough!

The message they're trying to broadcast isn't a bad one, but for (frank)'s sake, could we at least try and make it a little inspirational? This is confrontational and belittling.

So what teams need defense? That is where I am moving Coburn. I could start my package with Coburn and Read and add a pick depending on what type of player is coming back. I know this team is taking less penalties but I feel like they miss having that physical presence. I want a winger with some grit.
