I still think they need a #1/2 d man

Myers or Risto on the top pair, not both IMO

- homiedclown

Adding to that, I think the defense core really needs a pure offensive guy like say letang.

They've got a lot of 2 way and defensively responsible players but none of them really strike me as big point producers/powerplay Qb's.

Say the Sabres finish dead last and win the lottery hypothetically speaking. What do you think it would take to get the 2nd overall pick ? Would Myers, Hodgson, the other 2 1st rounders and a couple 2nd rounders get it done ?
- Pegullaville

I'd say it depends on the team but anyone in that conversation desperately needs a game changer like Eichel, I can't imagine there are too many offers that they'd even consider.

Zads/Risto
Pysyk/Gorges
Weber/Ruwhedel

Agreed. I thought D'Angelo was possibly the guy Murray kept trying to move up for.

I also wanted Honka. I knew he'd go early too.

a suter/seabrook type would work perfect, for a team wanting to compete for the cup

I think unless they manage to move up for kylington or Hanifin it'll have to be one of their big moves.

Edit: as in trades or maybe even FA.

Yea no doubt, it's where i'm hoping the hoarding of picks finally pays off. Time your moves right and who knows, they could land both a top 6 fwd and that d-man in the same off season.

That could end up being Murray's plan.

Move Myers, try and get Yandle or Ryan Ellis or someone like that

the big question, and only peggy and murray know the answer, how long does the tank continue?

they may have already decided to stink it up one more year then unleash hell

Which is another reason why I can't see Myers/Ennis being moved anytime soon.

Risto/Zads/Reinhart are not ready to lead this team anywhere within 1-2 years.

What years will the new draft lottery average out for picks? Will it be the standings from that current year + the 2 prior, or just the 3 prior?

If the former, then I can see a "non-tank" tank to remain low so that average stays abysmally low.

That would depend on what you are moving them for. You get another team's number 1 prospect + ? then you consider it. Trading for a guy that helps right now but is an unrestricted free agent in 1 or 2 years is pointless.

I know they are looking to build a team that will contend for cups for years to come, but it would be great to know when management thinks they will be at that level.

I don't believe they are using that method.

From what i understand starting in the 2016 draft, three separate lotteries to determine 1,2,3rd overall. Finishing worst guarantees you 4th overall instead of 2nd.

It's a good question but they do have a trifecta going for them here. Multiple 1sts, plethora of quality prospects, and a ton of cap space.

I think the only thing that would keep the tank going is if they felt that both FA and the trade market didn't have anyone worth making the big move.

When Murray took over, he mentioned a fast rebuild....and im pretty sure he mentioned "3 years" im not gonna go digging for quotes. I think we're done trading players for picks unless the player going out is a UFA. I would bet murray wants to ice an actual competitave team next year. Im not talking playoffs, but better than this year.

You just went there

Here comes the poop storm

Although it's looking more like the gonchar trade was to make room for this signing rather than a trade for Myers.

I'm still not ruling out a random trade from an unlikely team, it's usually the teams stuck in limbo that get super desperate, especially towards deadline day.

- Sabresfan-365

They took on salary for next year with the Gonchar trade.
He is a UFA after the season.

Me too. I think TM is picking his lips thinking, if we wind up 1 or 2 we get a franchise player, and then I start harvesting NHL ready players using the remaining picks /prospects he has already stockpiled. Our pipeline has already proven to be effective in developing the kids - everytone a young in gets called into action they do pretty well. And there's only so long anybody can out up with all this suck.

It depends who is there and who is left on our roster. murray does like his scouting. There might be someone he cant say no to in that first round after mcEichel. But for the most part, yeah, if we get mcEichel....we're going to need a veteran (not old) winger for him....may be thats what Moulson is all ready here for....we ice grigs/armia and then have Girgensons as a 3rd center, we might have a team next year.

Even if it's Moulson/Ennis or Stafford if they extend him. There are "able" bodies to play with.
