I'm going out for a bit Saturday night somewhere if it kills me. I need to get out of the house for more than 45 minutes.

No, I actually have the football game on. I don't think I would get the Habs game here. The NHL network was showing Philly/Minny.

A blonde driving a car became lost in a snowstorm. She didn't panic however, because she remembered what her dad had once told her. "If you ever get stuck in a snowstorm, just wait for a snow plow to come by and follow it." Sure enough, pretty soon a snow plow came by, and she started to follow it. She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes. Finally the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing. And she explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in a snow storm, to follow a plow. The driver nodded and said, "Well, I'm done with the Wal-Mart parking lot, do you want to follow me over to Best Buy now?"

We've had driving bans, but this pedestrian ban from 10 pm to 7 am must be a first.

They just don't want people walking around in the dark while they have the huge machinery out there. Of course you have part of the public which is now saying that it's false imprisonment and that they legally can't do anything to you. I don't know why people feel the need to stir the pot. They're telling people to stay off the streets for their own safety. The lack of common sense these days is absolutely ridiculous. It's like all the people blaming the county/Gov. Cuomo for not closing the thruway earlier and blaming them for people getting stuck. Nobody seems to be able to take ownership for their own poor decisions. Always have to blame someone else.

End of rant. I'll get off my soapbox now.

I just don't understand people. They were telling us for almost a week before we got hit that there was a storm coming. Does it change what most people do? No. They go out, get stuck, and then blame the government for not closing the roads earlier.

I also don't understand the people that get on the thruway even though the weather is horrible. I was always taught to stay on the surface streets because if you get stuck, it's easier to get out of your car and get somewhere to safety.

Do I feel bad for the people that had to spend countless hours in their cars? Sure. But do I feel it's right for them to blame the government for it? No.

I realize that the magnitude of this storm wasn't something that they were accurate in predicting. But the fact of the matter is that we were going to get a MINIMUM of 1-2 feet. That's enough to tell me to make sure I have food in my house and to not be on the roads when it hits.

The gripe the stranded people had was that they closed the thruway after they were on it and Cuomo kept saying they got on after it was closed.

But again, the thruway is the worst option if the weather is already bad, so it's their fault. They made the decision to get on it, even if it was still open. Inevitably, it was their choice. Not the governments.

They talked to some of the people stuck heading south before the toll booth. They claimed they we not stuck when they stopped . road was still clear. They shut down and blocked the toll booths so they were stuck there. 90 was clear all the way to PA at the time .

Some were traveling from Roch, Syracuse and NYC. No TV in the car to tell them it was closed. What do you listen too while traveling ?

I still think the Thruway Authority goofed up and isn't owning up to not properly closing it. Cuomo said there were signs, the tolls were closed and it wasn't the case in all places. I wouldn't want to be on a thruway in a storm either. I was once, and that was enough.

106.5, and I have to say, they do pretty good at letting you know what's up when it comes to the weather and the streets.

I get what you're saying, but the problem is just that even on Tuesday when half the area had been dumped on, the people who lived in the areas that didn't get dumped on decided to go driving into the bad areas. They then got stuck and it was even more that the plows/road crews had to deal with. The amount of people that blatantly ignore travel bans is just appalling to me. If they're telling me that I'm not allowed to drive somewhere, I'm going to assume it's in my own best interest to listen to them and not go anywhere. (Not that I could at this point, I have 5ft of snow in the street still).

Even the director of this area admitted they closed it too soon. They should have had a designated exit ramp for all the vehicles. not let them sit there and wait for the snow to pile around them. Cuomo said everyone stuck was contacted in a timely manner . some were there 15 hrs before they ever seen anyone, He said everyone was given water and energy bars, over 10 that were checked on said BS they were never offered anything and didn't see anyone for another 6 hours.

What they probably should have done was have the Thruway closed at the exits just beyond the tolls in either direction. If you're at one of the Toll barriers, there's nowhere to go, so that was a pretty stupid decision by the Thruway Authority. If they allow you to get off at say Blasdell or Lackawanna, at least you're off of the Thruway and have a chance to get somewhere to safety so you're not stuck in your car. Both of those exits have some sort of hotel/motel right at the exit.
