Rick, I said this originally when they still had Leddy. Leddy seems to be doing well with Boychuck and I think he would have done so with Seabrook if they paired for a while. Keith trade made more sense then than now. But still, I'll bet there has been trades when a team gave up too much for the best player in the trade. Offhand, thinking Lindross. That trade set up Quebec/Colorado for years. Must be some others.
- 6628

Just my opinion - you never trade a franchise type defenceman unless your team is heading into a rebuild because it has gotten old or just doesn't have other good enough personnel around that player. I like Leddy and he probably would have done very well with Seabrook, but he isn't ever going to be a Duncan Keith. (And his agent was going to ask the Hawks for $5M a year as soon as this season ended).

If Hawks want to make a splash to shore up other weaknesses in the lineup, they can go dangle Patrick Kane in the market. They would reap a huge bounty with teams falling all over themselves with excitement about how many jerseys and tickets they could sell.

Because his next contract takes your depth away, and without depth you don't win cups. I see 10mill justified for one guy on the team and to me this guy is the franchise, someone you build a team around, and that guy is Toews. Kane is an amazing players at times but he also can be inconsistent and does not always bring it and has off ice issues. Personally I never liked this contract but hey it's probably what he would of gotten in the open market. So the Hawks were screwed either way. A very very ballsy move would be to trade him, Bickell and TT for Buffalo's 1st and Reinhart. Then you trade Sharp and Just imagine you've freed up 22 million in cap space! Just think of how you could spend that money and how good this team could be with the right signings! Plus having 2 elite young players as well....I know it would never happen but just think how different and better our team would be.

Not likely Buffalo would make that trade because they are probably ready to roll out the Connor McDavid jerseys for sale at Christmas

But I'm sure the Hawks could get Phil Kessel or Alex Ovechkin even up for Kane.

....And the Hawks would lose both times as neither of those players has won anything.

Adam Clendening and Johnny Oduya are not similar hockey players. Clendening is a one-dimensional, offensive, power play specialist. Oduya is a defensive defenseman (alebit with a good first pass) and a shot blocking machine.
- BreakoutHockey

Do you know what 'puck-moving dman' vs. 'stay at home dman' means?

Oduya is paired with Hjarl because #4 is not a puck-moving Dman and Q likes to pair a defensive Dman with a puck moving Dman. You can look that up.

Maybe they have a suggestion box at the UC. Mark it to the attention of Stanbo and Q and see what they think of the idea.

Is there still a lottery and movement for draft positions? If so the 30th place team has the best chance for the first pick but it's not for sure they get that pick. There might be a riot in Buffalo is they don't get that pick and they finish 30th.

I thought it was 25% chance for the 30th place team and 18% for the 29th and so on down to the 17th place team.

Kessel I would take ahead of OV at this point without thinking. But both players don't make anyone else better and that is unlike Kane.

No...They reduced it this year so teams don't pull a Tallon and sell off everyone and tank.....Remember the Hawks got Kane with like a 5-6% chance.

I see that.

20% for worst team; 13.5% for 2nd worst down to 1% chance for the team with the 14th fewest points.

But I don't think the team with the worst record can go below 2nd pick.

I totally see what you saying but I tend to agree with Al that Kane makes players better. Kessel and OV are takers, not givers when it comes to hockey. Kane could use a good center, but those guys need a good center. Agree that dangling Kane brings a boatload back no matter what.

Believe me, I wouldn't want Kessel or OV in exchange for Kane for reasons Al mentioned.. A guy like Malkin would be more like it.

Its a moot argument because it will never, ever happen. You are entitled to your opinion. Maybe you can support it with a list of Ovi's NHL playoff accomplishments and in fact what he's ever done playing for Mother Russia.

Tune into Bill Watters sometime when he goes on an "Ovi its all about me" rant.

Watters tunes up Kessel every chance he gets. I hope I'm listening when someone asks him about the Nashville game the other night.

Ovi is #1 on his hate list. But another favourite Watters' subject target is Dion Phaneuf being captain of the Maple Leafs. He always skewers him big time.

51 goals and -35 rating: doesn't that mean he was on the ice for at least 86 goals against - certainly a lot more - more than 1 per game?

Or is my logic wrong?

EDIT: No - just realized his 24 PO goals don't count as pluses - but still....

Keith will be effective late into his 30's. IMO.

Yes.

Found the stat: in 78 games, he was on the ice for 80 non-PK goals against - fifth worst in the league among forwards - and only 45 non-PP goals for in 15:29 ES/TOI per game.

OV set the record for the worst +- figure for a leading scoring. He is a coach killer and won't ever play here while Q and or the Bowman's are in the mix.
