Ya gotta be kidding me. Cally scores about 25 a year and does
Many other good things. What does a guy have to do to be a
Legit top 6? Score 30? Are there any teams that have 4
Better wingers than cally? Even disregarding his immense intangibles,
Are there any teams w 4 wingers who score more than 25?
C'mon man. - BobbySchmautz

I truly don't expect the fan base to admit the Ranger front office made a mistake by letting Callahan go. The facts as brought out by Brooksie were right on the mark. AV saw Cally as a holdover from Torts team, and wanted him gone. Couple that with a somewhat contentious contract negotiation, agreed upon by Slats, only to renege when Yzerman dropped his demand for another roster player in the deal. I know the party line is he wanted a NMC similar to Girardi's. It's BS, it was never a sticking point. Oh, and BTW Yzerman wound up with not one but two more Rangers, but I digress. The people who say Callahan is nothing more than a glorified 3rd line winger are either not paying attention or too busy waiting to weigh in on the next "Potvin sucks" chant. |

My friend heard straight from callys mouth that they verbally agreed to a deal just 30 minutes before sather traded him. This was in mid July and cally was still furious and upset about it. |

The deal was made and agreed upon until Yzerman called and dropped his demand for another roster player. Cally went to the morning skate thinking he was going be a Ranger for the next 6 years. What's done is done. |

I disagree. Cally is a top 6 player imo. No doubt stammer will help inflate his stats though. - rangerdanger94
Pairing average to above average players with NHL elite's will inflate their stats, but not always by luck of being on the ice at the same time as that elite player. Often chemistry strikes and make the good fit. It makes you a better player because you lift your game to not drag theirs down (if that makes sense).
Remember the first season after the lockout when Sather signed Michel Nylander and Martin Straka and everyone and their mother laughed at those signings. When they were paired with Jagr, that line clicked and dominated 95% of the games. Jagr was Jagr and the other two wept the benefits of playing with him and had amazing season themselves.
Callahan never had that elite player to role with while here in NY. But he still produced very well and was a good leader. He will truly excel with Stamkos. I would not be surprised to see a 30+ goal/60+ point season from Cally this year (if he stays healthy). |

Everyone needs to calm done about Callahan scoring two the other night, fact is he more than likely would not have scored 2 if he was still a Ranger and there isn't a bone in my body that believes the run to finals would have happened without St. Louis, just the game winner in OT alone, you could give Callahan all day and a bucket of pucks and he's not picking that corner on Tokarski, his salary know would be a handcuff to the Rangers and eventually it may be one to Tamps too, youth eventually gets paid |

Good comparison and Nylander eventually got paid somewhere else but was never the same player he was in NY, the injury bug Callahan had is probably gone now that he's not in NY, just seems to be a curse on the organization (cough cough Sam Rosen) |

Just like we were the other night on the wrong end of back to back. Same exact situation, same exact scores with the outcomes reversed.
Edit; saw this was touched upon. |

The reason we all hesitated on the Callahan contract wasn't how good of player he is now, or next year, it's how good will he be the final 2-3 years of that deal. I don't understand why everyone feels the needs to put a final judgement on decisions months after they are made. We need to see how this pans out. Does Cally live up to that contract through it's entirety? What does St. Louis accomplish in his time here? Would it have made the short term gain worth it? It all remains to be seen. |

Also, I normally read the comments but instead I just quickly skimmed. Some people here need to have drink and relax... jesus....
Also, no Giroux tonight. Don't know if that's been mentioned. |

That first goal was such a disgusting move by Stamkos I smiled after the goal. It was gorgeous. Any one of us dopes could put that in. |
