I wish there was more betting on hockey so there would be pressure to disclose injuries like there is in football.

Yup. The NFL made it mandatory teams listed injury reports, so people wouldn't sell insider information. All has to do with gambling.

When it comes to handling injuries from soup to nuts, the Flyers look like Keystone Cops.

Step One: Remove Umberger and VLC
Step Two: ?????
Step Three: Stanley Cup!

What the heck is everybody's problem with Vinny Lecav ?

The guy is freakin awesome - he looks much better this year than last - and I, for one, am glad he's on this team.

I do agree, RJ looks pretty bad this season.

Schenn is finally looking like he's ready to break out. He's been moved back and forth. Please leave him at LW.
- MJL

Berube wants to rekindle the chemistry bw umberger and voracek in 2010. The same chemistry that got voracek traded. Have to trust berube here. getting Corpseberger going is probably more important than stomping on b schenns recent breakout on LW the organization had aimed for

Although Raffl has been very good, Raffl has only looked good on the top line this season. I feel Schenn has been our most capable LWer this season.

Schenn tied Jagr and scored more than Gretzky and Lindros. He's clearly the superior player to all 3. I can't wait until he reaches Forsberg potential.

So was Hartnell for Umberger a good deal or a bad deal? We've beaten to death why the deal was made but now I think it's time to own up to the result.

The trade was made with a legitimate rationale.

Right now on the eighteenth day of the eleventh month in the year of our lord two thousand and fourteen, with the play of of both guys, the Flyers lost the trade.

Bummer. Oh well.

Smells like downplaying.

The trade wasn't made in legitimate rationale. The Flyers saved a contract meant to be distroyed.

Let's revisit when Umberger's off the cap and Hartsy is a 36-yo paperweight due more than $9M.

While you might be right, what if your wrong?

Umberger isn't very good right now with three seasons left. What would have been the problem with allowing Hartnell play through his deal at least one more season and trading him one summer later in a better deal? Why the rush? What if Hartnell saw through his entire contract was crap at the end of the remainder the last three years? What's the difference?

Just want the early returns? It's a brutally one sided trade. Hartnell has been one if Columbus' best players & Umberger has sucked. From a strictly hockey sense, after 16 games it's as bad a trade as the team has ever made

Is it fair to call Umberger a two-way forward when he spends 90% of his time in the defensive zone?

I guess the optics are a bit different from where I'm sitting. Umberger is a paperweight right now, but I didn't give a poop about these next 2-3 seasons anyway, so that I don't mind.

What's most important to me is for them to fully maximize their ability to compete when it's time for Sanheim, Ghost and Laughts to really sink their teeth into this team, 2017+. I want money to keep B Schenn and Voracek, re-sign/replace Mason and Coburn, and enough to plug tomorrow's holes/needs.

But again, that's just me.

As long as you are willing to revisit that same result if it changes when this season gets to be more then 16 games old.

Right now..it's a bad trade..good thing is the season is 82 games and not 16 so you can't own the result for anything past those 16 games.

I'll be the first to state the inevitable. Hextall needs to go! His plan is obviously not working. With the Umberger deal, I've seen all I need to see.

I know I've beaten this to death but the current result was predictable. The majority was already down on Lecavalier last season. Umberger was already having a down season last year, and it was highly rumoured that Columbus was ready to buy him out. Now instead of having what many already considered to be one bad player, we have two.

Absolutely!

Let's also keep in mind I'm not pushing Lecavalier, Grossmann and both Schenn's out the door and never have.

Pretty much how I see it. Even with Hartnell, the Flyers aren't that much better right now. It's not like he would be the piece that makes them a Cup contender.
