the Flyers should consider trading Lecavalier or Umberger imo

Vinny isn't even good enough to take hartnells spot on the top 5 vs 4 pp unit. That top pp can't even elevate his play to the point where his shot, his only good quality, is an assert there.

And jake is now going to be responsible for getting vinnys game going 5vs5?

If be willing to try it. Bc really this year is a wash anyway

- Just5

Lecavalier just doesn't seem comfortable with the angle to the net as a LH shot on the left side of the ice, in the spot that Hartnell occupied. Hartnell was able to do that. The problem is that Lecavalier prefers the right side of the ice, which is the same area that Voracek is set up at. It has zero to do with not being good enough, or that the top PP can't elevate his play.

I'm not slowing down 93 purely on account of 40. If they're breaking up L1, I'd rather they use Voracek w/ Coots to form a line that actually has a chance to be good at ES.

Vinny can't keep up w/ Jake's pace.

- Tomahawk

Voracek wouldn't have to slow down. His speed and puck carrying would open up areas and lanes for Lecavalier to get open and use his best asset, which is his shot. You don't want all your ofensive players in a straight line. The only doubts I would have about the combination is that both players perfer the right side of the ice.

I'd certainly take any one of em over Umberger right now.

The ideal player to play with Lecavalier, is a playmaking, puck carrying LW. The biggest issue with Lecavalier is that he's not an easy fit. Needs the right type of player to play with to maximize his effectiveness. It's not that he can't play offensively anymore, it's that he's just not very versatile. And when you combine that with the other aspects of his game, not a fast player, not great defensively, not a puck pressure center. He's just not a good fit for this team. And really the question is, should the Flyers be making moves to accomodate a 34 year old center, at the expense of any of the younger players? I say no. But the catch is that they need him producing to make it easier to trade him.

Flyers shouldn't fix what isn't broken but Voracek seems more dangerous at even strength downlow. What Lecavalier did work Voracek's right point of the Umbrella, while Voracek is more free to work around the net to make plays and take close rage shots? Is the double screen from up high that Hartnell/Schenn work at important? Knuble and LeClair workes single screens alone for years.

I wouldn't change the PP and Voracek's passing up high is an asset but his shot from the point is very weak. Voracek will necer score from the point like Giroux or Streit.

I do realize Lecavalier has weak puck handling skill.

Off-topic, but I stumbled upon this from a Feb 2009 Scott Cullen article on draft pick value in a trade rumors section.

- As the Ducks embark on a six-game road trip, the Los Angeles Times suggests that Chris Pronger might not return to Anaheim with his teammates, noting that the Ducks should be happy to get a good young player and a first-round pick in return. Depending on the calibre of the young player, the Ducks may be able to get more than that.

Man did we overpay!

The issue isn't that the 1st line is broken. It's that with moving up Schenn, the rest of the line-up just might be broken. And there is no disputing that Vinnie is broken.

At some point G and Jake might slow down a little. I mean, no one expects 100+ point seasons from them. And if that happens, the team could be in a bit of trouble.

Have to let it play out and see what happens. But if Giroux isn't fine, and there is some kind of injury. What point is there is saying he is fine, if he isn't? It gets out that he went to be evaluated by a doctor, then they know he isn't going to practice. What do they think is going to happen? It's like the federal goverment. Just deny everything.

This just goes to show, if G misses any significant time this year, they really might be looking at a top-5 pick.
