Sometimes when I watch the Stars play, I wonder how Flyers fans would respond if this was their team. For instance, Jamie Benn just broke an 11-game scoring drought tonight (2 assists in last nine games). If he played here, some people would be calling to strip him of the C -- especially with the way the team has struggled for much of the season thus far.

If the Stars defense were the Flyers defense, fans would be enamored of rookie John Klingberg, mostly positive on Brenden Dillon and either divided (Trevor Daley, Alex Goligoski, Jamie Oleksiak's slow NHL-level development) or soured (Jordie Benn) of the players.

Lindy Ruff's handling of the goaltending this past week-- and the struggles of backup Anders Lindback -- would generated hundreds of message board posts.

aside from apparently talbot getting the nod, this scenario is entirely plausible.

A lot of top offensive guys are streaky. Look at Phil Kessel. He ends up with great numbers, but he can run real hot and cold.
- Jsaquella

Very true. When Benn goes through one of his offensive droughts, the team as a whole tends to struggle. Even with Spezza aboard, the Stars tend to go as far as Benn, Seguin and Lehtonen carry them. Lehtonen has not been as good thus far this season as he has been in past years since coming to Dallas.

Anders Lindbäck has been absolutely awful in his few games for the Stars this year, so Ruff has very little confidence in him. As a result, when theStars were faced with a three-in-four/ four-in-six this past week (in a road-home-road-home pattern no less) and Lehtonen got all the starts. Pretty desperate move for November. Lehtonen was absolutely gassed by the third period of the game against Chicago and he's struggling again tonight. Finally, Lindbäck came in for the third period and gave up a goal nine seconds into the period.

i have both seguin and lehtonen in my fantasy league. obviously, its hard to not be pleased with the results from seguin. but lehtonen has been absolutely killing me, especially since i pair him with niemi. his numbers are atrocious lately. dallas as a whole haas really underwhelmed. from what youve seen, is he personally struggling (i know he is streaky) or is the team in front of him pulling a pens in the playoffs and hanging him out to dry repeatedly? im sure its a combination of the two, but was just curious of your thoughts.

Man, if Giroux goes two games without scoring, the world would end -- Benn has it good down there, no doubt

[quote=PhillySportsGuy]OMG! You can't put him on the top line! He hasn't earned anything! All players must start on the 4th line with Rinaldo and make him great. Once this is accomplished, they are moved to the third line and forced into horrible situations. Once they score 70 points, they can then move to the top 6. Once there,

dying. over here.

Consistently mediocre defense will eventually pull the goaltending down with it, and vice versa. Lehtonen has been letting in more stoppable goals this season than he generally does but the play in front of him leaves a whole lot to be desired.

he won't be in the league by the beginning of next season.

i'm telling you, generally speaking, goalies that big have their size work against them.

i know that feeling all too well. my new team - not good. i routinely face 40 shots a game, give or take, usually take, and unless i'm virtually perfect, we will not win. fatigue sets in, you start to try to do a little too much because you don't trust the guys in front of you...ugh.

Higher expectations and growing pains. Nill has them on the right track.
