so, everything you gave up last season for marty st louis was worth every single moment of not winning the cup? - RileyB77
They made it to the finals and had a legit shot at the cup. Marty was a galvanizing force during that run after his moms death. |

i know, i think it would be a better argument if they won though
obviously im extremely biased, but i think they gave up a lot for a "potential" deep run, and 2 years of marty st louis, but maybe he plays until he is 45, who knows
hes a good player, but hes not playing alongside steven stamkos there either, so his production won't be as high |

Without St. Louis they don't get to the finals last year. Yes, even though they didn't win it all, the deal they made gave the organization it's deepest playoff showing since the mid-90's.
So yes, the Lightning might get more picks, to stock their deep cupboard, and a competent younger winger in exchange but the Rangers got a still solid NHL forward, with a finals appearance, and an extra second round pick in this year's draft.
If the Lightning get to, or win in the Stanley Cup finals at any time in the next decade, the deal is likely going to be considered a win for them. But until they get to the finals, while Callahan is here with either of the two first round draft picks, you can't say the Lightning stole anything from NY.

St. Louis is almost at a point per game clip with a struggling team at the moment. I think he has a another year or two left in the tank. |

MSL will play until police discover he framed Aaron Hernandez. MSL is that gutless. |

i think its fair to say already the lightning won the trade , add to the fact yzerman only had 1 gm to work with , and that gm knew that, its even more impressive.
it is a shame marty asked to go, marty is a hard worker, hes a good hockey player, but i am extremely happy with what we got in return and not so happy with marty anymore so overall , for me, its a win for us.
i think marty made the wrong choice, i said it before he was traded and im saying the same thing right now . if he wanted to win before he retired, he probabaly should have just stayed in tampa bay, because at the time i said in 2-3 years, he will be winning.
you guys can tell me it was about his family and what not, but he was hard on the lightning franchise before he left, and he never stopped once he got to new york, talking about winning , cups, and big hockey markets. kind of happy to see him get so far to winning the cup just so it hurt that much more |

The Rangers Lightning game was the only game last night and it's fair to say that no Ranger was deserving of that honor based on their performances |

Don't . You pay 225$ for it , it should be hd all the time no questions asked . It (frank)ing switches from hd to poop quality can't even see the numbers and the audio is no better ... Haven't heard a word the broadcasters said this whole game because of poopty audio fading in and breaking up it's just rediculous . I wonder if there's any way to get some of your money back , I doubt it , but at this point id rather watch a virus infected stream on my laptop in bad quality . Not to mention it freezes ALL THE TIME |

Game center live is only $160 for the entire season (or $100 if you can trick NHL.com into thinking you're from Sweden)? You might be talking about Center Ice...which yea is hands down the worst thing possible. |

That is your internet not the Gamecenter Live. You need more bandwidth. |

Well they looked spent of emotion and legs and the Isles came out rested and ready to play. Nabby had a good first but is always on his knees watching pucks go over his shoulder. The Isles clogged centre ice well and deserved the win. All three of our games against them are on back to backs one for them two for us. On to Toronto |

Same game played the other night with different sweaters winning. Back ups played by the losing team. Strong firsts from the losers followed by weak seconds and thirds on the wrong end of a back to back. |

I am not taking away from MSL accomplishments as a player. His resume is truly impressive and he is future HOF material. No arguing any of that.
As a Lightning fan since day one, I through MSL was great when he played for us.
My problem (and likely others) is how and when he left the team. Playing for a sports team is playing for a corporation. Amongst other things, it's work and it's a business. We have all worked for arseholes and tools we disliked or possibly hated. We kept going at the job because it gave us a paycheck and we liked our coworkers. Under fire, we formed friendships and bonds with our coworkers. The arse manager would eventually go and get promoted or transferred. You ride out the wave and keep going. This is true for $15 an hour. It should certainly be true if you are getting paid millions of dollars per year.
I've worked for bigger tools than Steve Yzerman and got paid a lot less to do it. The fact the Stevie Y. snubbed Marty on the Olympic rosters is moot. Steve put together the best roster to give Canada the best chance to win - there is no favoritism or grudges there. Marty is a great player, but he didn't make the cut on a roster that was heavy with firepower.
What I do understand is Marty's desire to be closer to home and his family. If that had been the reason, then I would be fine with that. But, the timing was also a D**K MOVE. Right during the run-up to the playoffs when your top gun is injured? During the playoff chase, you decide to pack up and leave. Jump on the next flight out of town and screw the guys you have been working with for over a decade. That is what I have a problem with. That is not being a professional, that is being selfish.
MSL - great player, dangerous with the puck, never takes a night off, leaves it all out there on the ice, great veteran presence. Tool. Midget Selfish Tool. Deep down inside, there is a little bit of Sean Avery in MSL and that is what disappoints me. |
