Mini "me" was a -4? I love it.

I will take great enjoyment in watching him fade into retirement. I have zero respect for a team captain that bailed on his team because his ego was hurt.

- maaddmike

Not to start a MSL debate but I do think there was more to him requesting a trade than just having his ego hurt whatever those reasons were. Regardless MSL is a professional and if a deal wasn't made he would've come to the rink every day and give 100% with the bolt uniform on.

Midget that carried the flag while this franchise was toiling in irrelevance. Nice sign of respect shown to a future Hall of Fame player. The fact most of you side with Yzerman over a player that was a big part of the organization's only moment in the sun and forged a Hall of Fame career, while playing for this franchise, is truly stunning to me.

Try to imagine if say Brian Leetch requested a trade and see if you would feel the same about him...

He wanted away from Yzerman more than he wanted out of Tampa. Personal issues with team executives simply can't erase all of the great he did for that organization.

Before Stamkos and his greatness there was St. Louis carrying the flag for a more often than not also hockey club. And he flourished more than not and even during last season's drama he was still managing to lead the way, significantly helping Tampa maintain a playoff spot, while Stamkos was out with his leg injury.

After causing a complete uproar in the process. I was always a big fan of MSL. From how he came into the league and otherwise but that whole situation looked terrible for him. I couldn't blame a Lightning fan for hating the guy. If he were a Ranger and jumped ship like that and the roles were reversed you guys would be blasting him daily in your thread and you know it.

Saying he is a complete professional is a total contradiction to what he showed everyone last season with his trade demands. "Professionals" who are captains of teams don't demand trades because they got their ego's bruised especially in that manner and at that time(pushing for the playoffs). There's not one thing about that whole situation that makes me think "professional". Quite the opposite actually.

and leaving by demanding a trade which dwindled his value before that spot was secured and before they got swept in the first round by Montreal. I'm sure all of these guys think fondly about Marty St Louis's heroics. I got no issues with you guys but if you think anyone is buying what either of you are selling you're nucking futs

I just dont think the Olympics thing was the sole reason. He reportedly requested a trade a few years ago...I think 2011-12...too.

Anyway marty didnt go whine to the media. It somehow got leaked and regardless he showed up every day to practice and play and if no deal was reached he would've continued to produce and represent the sweater proudly.

I completely understand why fans would hate him but the venom seems over the top. Some peopleare being way too spiteful. They complain he's selfish but after sacrificing so much for the organization he has a right to privately request a trade. Its the bitter fans that are selfish for not wanting the guy to be in a situation where he's happy just so they can see him play for them. Its more the fans with crushed egos...no tampa fan could believe a player let alone MSL owould want out of their team and it hurts.

I'm not saying its a similar situation but arent you being a bit hypocritical considering visnovsky and nabakov almost retired from the NHL to avoid playing for your team yet now you praise visnovsky and praised nabakov during the lockout season? If you're so against MSL due to the principle of him being unprofessional and whiney then why dont you feel the same way about vis and nabby?

Sound familiar(bold)? Like I said if the roles were reversed you guys would be spitting a hell'uva lot more venom then these guys are right now. Also, your homerism at times is so transparent with anyone that dons that sweater. There's no way to doll that shat storm out for poor MSL. He looks like a pouty little baby that got his lollipop taken away from him. He couldn't wait a few more months for the offseason? Give me a break. The fact that he "sacrificed" so much for the only organization that really gave him a chance. Give me a facking break with the dramatics bud. He should be sucking off Tampa's teat till he's old and gray for making him what he is. He could be playing in a beer league right now and working at Denny's. You're way off base with this one.

Not this guy. I wanted neither resigned number 1. Also, when they agreed to play I wanted Snow to send them wherever the fack they wanted to be. Go back and read if you want. Number 3, bad analogy. Completely different situations and circumstances. Horrible comparison.

They only see the last few years they forget that he was a struggling 4th line in Calgary and he came to a team with Vinny, Brad, Khabby, Modin and Andy and was given a chance.he got it and performed great became a fan favourite and made a lot of money for he and his family. Yes he and a lot of others played for some crazy ownership group but Vinik created a top line organization and named him Captain. The Olympics had nothing to do with Mr Vinik and his team the city or the fans. He claimed to be near home and see his kids play hockey- well he went home every night to his family, the kids were in youth hockey which concluded for the year anyway. So he has a hissy fit, took the kids out of school mid year and left giving the team only one option. A professional would have respected the name on the front and waited a few months and ask during the off season when the options were available and everyone in Tampa would have cheered him and wished him well. Now some will cheer some will boo and no one will be talking about a little statue in front of the arena. A classless display of me me me. Screw him

Yup, he is a vile scum and deserves to be thrown in prison until he is hanging onto the last thread of his life and then stoned to death to avoid a peaceful death. Afterwards he should be sentenced to an eternity of hell which constitues of him waking up swimming in a pitch black dark cave with only a couple inches of air at the top. There is something swimming below him...he cant see it but he can sense it. Any time he passes out from exhaustion and drowns, he reawakes in the exact same situation with no memory of the previous one. Forever. (frank) that midget.

All I'm saying is if I have a baby and Kate Upton calls me last minute and invites me over for casualsex and my only 2 babysitting options are MSL or a convicted pedophile I'm choosing the pedophile.

Taking the extreme to make your point more valid doesnt work. You know im right and I know you agree and I also know you'll never admit it . Just say you're happy to have MSL and call it a day

Yzerman got the Lightning a great return.

Yzerman is the King down here. Some of these superfans questioned all his moves. Like when he traded the legendary Conacher for Bishop. They have learned to trust his moves.

Then he should have said something to that affect. Instead he said basically nothing and left himself open to the criticism by leaving his "reason(s) so open-ended. Noone is questioning his professionalism as a player (after all that is one of the many reasons this community loved him so much), however we are questioning the professionalism of how/when he left
